Pro-Net Hands Over EV Fleet to Ministry of Transport
Pro-Net has handed over a fleet of electric vehicles to the Ministry of Transport (MOT), giving government agencies the chance to get behind the wheel of some of the latest EVs on the market.
The handover, attended by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, was part of a wider programme that also marked MOT’s National Month launches, the 33rd anniversary of the Railway Assets Corporation and the ministry’s Jalur Gemilang campaign.
On the road-testing list for MOT are the Proton e.MAS 7, Malaysia’s top-selling EV, along with the smart #1 and smart #3. By putting these cars into government hands, the initiative offers real-world experience with EV driving, from range to daily usability.
That kind of exposure is seen as key as Malaysia works towards its target of 15% electrified vehicle adoption by 2030.
The idea is simple: policymakers and officials need to live with the technology to better understand its benefits and challenges. That insight will guide policy and infrastructure planning which will help implement long-term strategies for EV growth.
Pro-Net CEO Zhang Qiang said the move reflects the company’s support for Malaysia’s sustainable mobility transition. Beyond the ceremony, he noted, the goal is to help government stakeholders build readiness for an electrified future.
Looking ahead, Proton is set to launch the e.MAS 5 later this year, an affordable compact EV hatch promising up to 325 KM of range plus a barrage of advanced safety tech. Expected to rival Perodua’s upcoming EV with a sub-RM100,000 price tag, the e.MAS 5 will also likely see local production (CKD) start in Sept at Proton’s new EV plant.
Together with the latest handover to MOT, these steps underline Pro-Net’s role in Malaysia’s EV transition, backing the government’s push for sustainable transport and a low-carbon future.
