MG has officially unveiled the all-new 2026 MG4 EV hatchback at the 2025 Chengdu Auto Show. The compact EV comes in five trims, priced from RMB68,800 (RM44,600) to RMB102,800 (RM66,800).
Early buyers are being offered limited-time subsidies of RMB3,000 (RM1,490), along with perks worth up to RMB27,000 (RM17,600). These include battery replacement incentives, free charging credits, financing packages and extended warranties.

The headlining act is the Anxin Edition, fitted with a manganese-based lithium-ion semi-solid-state battery developed with Suzhou QingTao Power Technology. Deliveries are slated to begin before the end of the year, though final capacity and range figures remain under wraps.
Underpinning the MG4 is SAIC’s E3 pure electric platform which supports 30 to 80% fast charging in just 20 minutes. A single front-mounted motor delivers 120 kW (161 HP) and 250 Nm, enabling a top speed of 160 KM/H.

Two LFP battery packs are available. A 42.8 kWh unit offers 437 KM of CLTC range, while the larger 53.9 kWh pack delivers up to 530 KM. Dimensionally, the MG4 measures 4,395 MM long, 1,842 MM wide, and 1,551 MM tall, with a 2,750 MM wheelbase.

Its design features sharper projector headlights, a segmented honeycomb grille, illuminated MG badge and aerodynamic side ducts. At the rear, a full-width light bar with Cyberster-inspired arrow elements completes the look. Buyers can choose between 16 or 17 inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin blends a compact digital instrument cluster with a central touchscreen ranging from 10.25 to 15.6 inches, powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chip running the MG x OPPO Smart Connectivity system. Higher trims add a two-spoke steering wheel and column-mounted gear selector for a more premium touch.
On the tech front, the top-spec model introduces advanced driver assistance with 12 ultrasonic radars, multiple cameras and the Horizon Journey J6e chip. Features include high-speed Navigation On Assist, automatic lane changes, lane keeping and intelligent parking.

With prices starting below RMB70,000 (RM45,400), the MG4 positions itself as one of China’s most affordable compact EVs and a direct rival to the hot-selling Geely Xingyuan (Proton e.MAS 5).
Additionally, the arrival of the Anxin Edition signals MG’s first step into semi-solid-state battery tech space while keeping the MG4 firmly priced within the mass-market segment’s reach.

The big question now is whether MG Malaysia will follow suit, updating the MG4 lineup with this new model in Q1 2026, potentially with a CKD plan to take full advantage of EV tax waivers, much like rivals BYD and Chery.
