BMW Has Silently Updated Its Emblem on the New iX3 EV

BMW has silently updated its iconic roundel emblem, as seen on the newly-launched BMW iX3 Neue Klasse EV SUV.
It appears that the second-gen BMW iX3 wasn’t the only new thing BMW has shown during the IAA Mobility 2025 motor show, as the Bavarian automaker has also silently updated its iconic roundel emblem for the new EV SUV.
As seen on the new iX3, the updated emblem still retains its iconic propeller image that has been used for decades, but the changes are only noticeable once you put the new emblem side-by-side with the previous version.

While the blue and white colours derived from the flag of Bavaria are still there, the new emblem now has less chrome. Previously featured on both the outer and inner rings of the emblem, the new one omits the inner chrome ring that separates the black donut from the blue and white propeller on its predecessor.
Also gone are the horizontal and vertical chrome bars dividing the blue and white sections, thus giving the new logo a cleaner, bolder look over its chrome-studded predecessor. Another nitpick is that the chromed BMW lettering appears to be slimmer, while the black section now has a satin or matte finish, rather than gloss.

Upon further inspection, we also noticed that BMW has ditched the blue exterior ring on its new logo, which was previously used on both BMW’s battery EV and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, with the new iX3 sporting the roundel logo without one.

With this mildly-updated logo, BMW is now following in the footsteps of its fellow German rivals Porsche and Audi in updating their respective emblems. That said, we are certainly relieved to see these updated badges still retain the same iconic design that has been recognisable for eons, rather than taking a more radical approach by overhauling their whole identity.
