JPJ Set To Make Seatbelts Compulsory For ALL Car Occupants
JPJ will soon enforce mandatory use of seatbelts for ALL car occupants - passengers, including those seated in the back seats, included.

The Road Transport Dept (JPJ) reportedly confirmed that it will soon start enforcing the mandatory use of seatbelts for ALL car occupants. This applies to both drivers and passengers, the latter covering those seated in back seats too.
The decision was confirmed by JPJ Director General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli earlier today, though hi did not disclose an exact date to start this enforcement. “We will announce in due course,” said the department’s head.
Instead, he noted that JPJ’s current priority is to carry out advocacy programmes on seatbelt usage. This includes the department’s new ‘Klik Sebelum Gerak’ campaign that resulted in the reminder video featured below that it recently published on social media.
Obviously, those who fail to oblige will be punished, heftily too. That’s because once enforcement begins, offenders who fail to buckle up can face fines of up RM300 under the Motor Vehicles (Seatbelt and Child Restraint System) Rules 1978 (Amendment 2019).
“JPJ is highly committed to making seatbelt use a national safety norm and culture to protect the lives of all road users,” adds Datuk Aedy further when speaking to local press during a press conference held in Putrajaya earlier today.
Furthermore, the department head also touts that enforcement of seatbelt use has already been implemented for express and tour bus drivers and passengers, effective July 1, 2025.
“We have already begun enforcement (for seatbelts), and we are issuing summonses to passengers who fail to wear them,” he said.
