BYD Cars Malaysia and partners Sime Motors officially launched the new BYD Seal 6 EV saloon earlier today, making it the seventh new model from the Chinese NEV-maker to enter the local market.

BYD Cars Malaysia, together with partners Sime Motors, officially launched its seventh new offering for the local market earlier today in the form of the new BYD Seal 6 EV saloon.

Notably, this all-electric C-segment fastback saloon marks its right-hand-drive (RHD) debut today too, thus making Malaysia the first market worldwide to receive it in this form as well. Two variants are on offer, those being the base ‘Dynamic’ and range-topping ‘Premium’.

Before you ask, this sleek fastback four-door is positioned below the BYD Seal model, and we’ll ad that the Seal 6 is based on the 'Qin L' model marketed in China.

Two variants were revealed - a base 'Dynamic' priced at RM100,000, followed by a range-topping 'Premium' guise that commands RM115,800.

We’ll get straight into price and after-sales first and, unlike the Seal, the new BYD Seal 6 EV commands RM100,000 (Dynamic) and RM115,800 (Premium) – up to RM71,000 lower than the brand’s other EV saloon model mentioned.

Included in said prices are BYD Cars Malaysia’s typically comprehensive warranties. It starts with a 6-year or 150,000 KM base vehicle warranty, followed by separate 8-year or 160,000 KM warranties covering the drive unit and high-voltage ‘Blade’ battery pack. Also included as complimentary accessories are a V2L (vehicle-to-load) adapter and 3-pin charger unit with Type 2 connector.

Besides prices and comprehensive after-sales coverages, BYD Cars Malaysia also detailed a special 'Launch Package' that's offered exclusively to the first 800 customers.

Of course, that’s not all. Typical of BYD Cars Malaysia again, there are special rewards in the form of an exclusive ‘Launch Package’ for early adopters, namely the first 800 customers. Firstly, this package brings a complimentary wallbox charger worth RM3,288 for the Dynamic variant specifically.

Moving up to the Premium variant and the Launch Package here is worth RM6,288 instead. It sees the choice between a free wallbox charger worth RM3,288 plus a launch rebate of RM3,000 for landed property owners, or a 12-month Sime Platinum 4+ package by Power Up with doorstep charging service worth RM5,000 plus a RM1,000 rebate for high-rise residents.

BYD Seal 6 EV Premium variant pictured. Note this guise's larger 18-inch wheels and panoramic glass sunroof.

Diving into specs and we’ll start with footprint and dimensions first. Sitting 4,720 MM long with a class-leading 2,820 MM wheelbase, 1,860 MM wide and 1,495 MM tall, this Chinese EV saloon longer, wider and taller than the segment-defining Honda Civic that measures 4,681 MM long with a 2,735 MM wheelbase, 1,802 MM wide and 1,415 MM tall.

Moving to EV drivetrain, both variants firstly share the same 56.64 kWh ‘Blade’ LFP battery pack, and it juices a single rear e-motor unit outputting either 95 kW (127 Hp) and 220 Nm in Dynamic guise, or a higher 160 kW (215 Hp) and 330 Nm in the higher-end Premium guise.

Both variants share the same 56.64 kWh Blade LFP battery pack, which yields up to 485 KM of NEDC-rated range. Charging speeds are rated at 7 kW (AC) and 100 kW (DC).

Naturally, the Premium stands as the quicker version between the two as it despatches 0-100 km/h in just 7.5 secs versus 10.9 secs in the Dynamic guise. Notable, a figure shared by both is the claimed NEDC-rated range, which reads at a respectable 485 KM.

As for charging speeds, it’s typical of BYD here whereby AC inputs are capped at just 7 kW whereas DC fast-charging input is capped at 100 kW.

Besides the segment-leading wheelbase figure, the BYD Seal 6 EV also promises 'enhanced' drive dynamics thanks to its RWD driveline, as well as a chassis that adopts MacPherson struts up front with Multi-link rear assemblies.

Said EV driveline is encased within a chassis that features both MacPherson Strut front and Multi-Link Rear suspension assemblies – another first for BYD, in fact. Coupled with its RWD driveline detailed and the BYD Seal 6 EV promises ‘enhanced’ dynamic drive dynamics versus its segment rivals.

Visually, the Dynamic and Premium guises are easily set apart by their wheels – 17-inch versus 18-inch respectively – and the presence of a panoramic sunroof (Premium variant only). That aside, both are also separated by equipment levels.

On board, the BYD Seal 6 EV seats up to five occupants and comes brimmed with plenty of high-tech and premium features - another typical trait from BYD.

However, what is shared across both are the barrage of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features. Present across both variants are features like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), as well as Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Intelligent High Beam Control (IHB).

All of which comes on top of core basics shared across both such as six airbags, ABS plus ESC and TCS combination, 360-degree parking monitor, electronic parking brake (EPB) with Auto Hold function, not forgetting a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) to boot too.

Bookings for the new BYD Seal 6 EV are now opened at all authorised BYD dealerships nationwide.

As for other differences, you may refer to the spec sheet print-out provided below. Otherwise, what’s also shared between both are the exterior and interior colourway choices – you’ll find Artic White, Harbour Grey and Misty Blue for the former and either Black or Grey for the latter.

You can check out more images of the sleek new BYD Seal 6 EV in the extensive gallery we’ve prepared below. Given what we’ve detailed, what do you reckon then folks? Would this tempt you away from either the aforementioned Honda Civic or even its Toyota Corolla rival? Hit the comments below…
