Malaysian-Bound smart #5 EV Gains 5-Star Euro NCAP Rating

The upcoming smart #5 EV has just scored a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test—the highest among large SUVs in 2025.
Following its initial preview in Malaysia last month, the upcoming smart #5 EV has now made waves on a different continent, as this EV SUV just gained a full 5-star rating for the Euro NCAP crash test protocol.
From the overall 5-star rating, the #5 managed to score 88% on the Adult Occupant protection category, 93% on Child Occupant protection, 84% on Vulnerable Road Users, and 92% on Safety Assist. Combined, these scores make the #5 EV the highest-scoring large SUV tested by Euro NCAP in 2025.

According to smart Automobiles, the foundation of the #5’s stellar five-star rating is due to its decent passive safety features, with the automaker going on to boast about the steel-aluminium hybrid body of the car that is made up of 82% high-strength materials.
While the high-strength materials are commonplace in most modern cars nowadays, smart says the #5 goes further by having a “full coverage of high-strength materials on the side doors and rear door opening area to ensure comprehensive occupant protection.”

Besides the passive features, the #5 is also equipped with a range of intelligent driver assistance systems, with its Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) function earning a 97% score by Euro NCAP, the automaker said.
With the help of advanced hardware like high-resolution cameras and radars, the #5 offers a variety of active safety features like Emergency Lane Keep Assist (ELKA) and Driver Monitoring to detect fatigue or distraction. Combined, these technologies contributed to the 92% score for Safety Assist and 84% for Vulnerable Road User protection.
With this latest score, the new #5 continues the hot streak of five-star scores for smart EVs, as all models of the current smart product portfolio have achieved the highest five-star Euro NCAP ratings.

Closer to home, the smart #5 is slated to make its local debut sometime later in Oct this year, where it will be the third smart model to be launched in our market. With three variants offered, could the #5 become the new game-changer in the local premium EV market space?
