Previewed: smart #5 EV SUV – 3 Variants, Launching in Oct 2025

Previewed ahead of its October debut is the right-hand drive version of the smart #5 EV SUV, with three variants available.
Following its first public debut at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025), smart Malaysia (PRO-NET) has finally shown the right-hand drive (RHD) version of its upcoming flagship EV SUV, the smart #5. Set to debut later in Oct this year, the #5 will be available in three variants for our market, namely the entry-level Pro, Premium, and the range-topping Brabus.
This also means that the rugged Summit Edition guise shown at MAS 2025 earlier this year won’t be making its way into our market, although said model is available in other overseas markets like Hong Kong and Europe.

Back to the #5, this EV SUV is often touted as the brand’s largest model to date, spanning 4,705 MM long, 1,920 MM wide, 1,705 MM tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,900 MM. This puts it slightly smaller than other premium midsize EV SUVs like the Xpeng G6, BYD Sealion 7, and even its fellow Geely stablemate, the Zeekr 7X.
While PRO-NET has yet to show us the Pro variant, we at least did get the chance to size up both the Premium and Brabus guises of the #5.

smart #5 Premium variant
We’ll start with the Premium, where it gets premium exterior bits like Cyberlight Matrix LED headlights with unique segmented LED DRLs that run across the front grille, LED taillights with a similar design as the front, flushed door handles, and illuminated smart emblems on its D-pillars.
Not to forget, the #5 Premium rolls on 20-inch alloy rims with aero-optimised design, plus four two-tone exterior colourways available for pick, namely Meta Black, Cyber Silver, Pulsar Ruby, and Saturn Beige—all with an Eclipse Black rooftop.

smart #5 Brabus
The #5 Brabus, on the other hand, ups the ante by featuring the sporty Brabus bodykit comprising a front lip, side skirts, aggressive front and rear bumper garnishes, and a roof-mounted spoiler, as well as a slew of red and black-hued trims around the exterior. Also special for the range-topper are the 21-inch Brabus Monoblock alloy wheels finished in black, as well as three exterior colourways—Atom Matte Grey, Meta Black, and Digital White.

On-board, the Malaysian-spec #5 Premium will get the same triple-screen setup seen on the overseas market, featuring the dual 13-inch infotainment screens powered by the AMD V2000 chip. Accompanying the main screens are the smaller 10.3-inch digital metre cluster and an expansive 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD).

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the cabin is the 20-speaker, 2,000-watt Sennheiser Signature Sound System with Dolby Atmos surround sound, making the #5 the first-ever car in the world to feature an audio system from this renowned German audio brand.

Speakers and screens aside, the #5 Premium does feel and look more upmarket than the rest of its siblings, thanks to the liberal use of premium leather material and real wood veneers. That said, while the unit displayed here is primed with a brown interior colourway with matching real wood veneers, we’ve been told that the Malaysian-spec car will get an all-black interior colourway instead.
Other key amenities include ventilated and powered front seats, heated and power-adjustable rear seats, dual wireless charging pads, a 256-colour ambient lighting system, a full panoramic glass roof, multiple USB-C ports, and many more.

The Brabus model also gets all the same tech amenities as the Premium variant, plus some sporty Brabus-specific features like the suede Brabus steering wheel, Brabus-embossed front seats wrapped in black Dinamica upholstery with red stitching, red seat belts, and carbon fibre trims replacing the wood veneers, to name a few.

smart #5 Premium (left) & #5 Brabus (right)
Thanks to its larger facade, the #5 is also a much more practical option than its two smaller siblings, featuring a cargo space measuring 630 litres as standard, which can be expanded to 1,530 litres with the rear seats folded. Should you need more space, there’s also a frunk measuring up to 72 litres, although the dual-motor Brabus gets a smaller 47-litre space instead.
On the powertrain front, the Malaysian-spec #5 lineup starts with the baseline Pro variant, which uses a single RWD motor setup rated at 335 hp (250 kW) and 373 Nm that allows for a decent 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.9 seconds, plus three driving modes—Eco, Normal, and Sport. Juice is provided by a 76-kWh NCM battery pack for up to 465 km of WLTP range, while charging is done via either an 11 kW AC or a 150 kW DC.

Moving on to the #5 Premium, this mid-spec model gets a peppier RWD motor setup rated at 358 hp (267 kW) and 373 Nm that allows for a quicker century sprint time of 6.5 seconds. Thanks to its larger 100-kWh NCM battery, the #5 Premium gets the highest WLTP range of 590 km amongst the trio, while accepting both AC 22 kW and DC 400 kW charging methods—the latter allowing a 10-80% charge to be completed in just 20 minutes.

Last but not least, the #5 Brabus stood out as the sportiest of the lot, featuring a dual-motor AWD setup that delivers a combined output of 637 hp (475 kW) and 710 Nm, making it the most powerful smart model to date. Its century sprint time now cuts down to only 3.8 seconds before reaching the limiter at 200 km/h.
The Brabus model uses the same 100-kWh unit as the Premium, enabling a slightly discounted WLTP range of 540 km for this range-topper. Not to forget, the Brabus also benefits from a sportier suspension setup, plus several additional driving modes like Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock, Adaptive, and Brabus.

On the safety front, both the #5 Premium and Brabus guises get the full active safety package, featuring ADAS functions like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Lane-Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Front (FCTA) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Full Automatic Parking Assist (FAPA), and many more.
