Refreshed GWM Tank 400 Revealed In China
Making rounds on the Chinese internet this week are images and initial details of the newly revamped 2026 GWM Tank 400.
Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor (GWM) unveiled a revamped iteration of its Tank 400 hybrid-powered off-road SUV in China this week. Featured here are initial images and details published on the Chinese internet.
Firstly, the revised Tank 400 has been given a design makeover and, secondly, it gains a new Hi4-Z hybrid variant that pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged heart with dual e-motors. Moreover, this guise also gains GWM’s third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra ADAS suite.
In terms of size and footprint, the new GWM Tank 400 sits 4,964 MM long with a 2,850 MM wheelbase, 1,970 MM wide and 1,905 MM tall. Versus the model it replaces, this new version is 21 MM shorter but 10 MM wider and 5 MM taller.
The revised 2026MY Tank 400 now sits slightly shorter than before, but it's also grown in width and height slightly. It also features a design makeover to look more rugged and squared.

Visually, the GWM Tank 400 continues to feature an overly rugged and very squared exterior design. Up front, it also rocks a grille with two horizontal chrome bars, and it’s flanked by polygonal headlights too.
Notably, the front bumper has been redesigned to boast more straight lines and black accents. Other notable touches here include the bolt-on flared wheel arches plus the striking ‘Dunhuang Purple’ paint worn by the display unit pictured.
At the rear, the GWM Tank 400 continues to feature a tailgate-mounted spare tyre, but it now has no ‘guard’ for which. Tailgate badges have been revised in terms of positioning – these now a much neater presentation than before.
At the rear, the 2026MY GWM Tank 400 sees a revised and neater tailgate design with repositioned badges and cleaner spare tyre mount sans 'guard'.

As mentioned prior, the new GWM Tank 400 gains GWM’s third-gen Coffee Pilot Ultra ADAS suite that brings city and highway ‘NOA (Navigate on Autopilot)’ abilities. This is largely powered by a new roof-mounted LiDAR sensor plus side and rear cameras.
As an added safety precaution, GWM also added a small blue light in the taillights. These blue lights will illuminate and serve as a signal to other drivers that the NOA system mentioned is activated.
Moving to the cabin and this revised 2026 model year version sees its cabin and cockpit largely mirror the existing Tank 400 model. It features a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel, 16.2-inch central touchscreen infotainment, refrigerator, and more.
A newly added roof-mounted LiDAR sensor also enables the revised Tank 400 to offer city and highway NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) abilities.

Mechanically, the GWM Tank 400 sees two powertrain choices on offer – Hi4-Z and Hi4-T. The former is shared with the Tank 500 Hi4-Z, which pairs a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo mill with both a P2 and P4 e-motor plus a sizeable 59.05 kWh battery.
Combined, this package puts out 865 hp and 1,195 Nm, and both are managed by 3-speed DHT automatic box. In this grade, it also yields up to 200 KM of CLTC-rated electric-only range with each full charge of its battery pack mentioned.
On board, it appears the revised 2026MY Tank 400 largely mirrors the current Tank 400 model - read: mostly unchanged.

Moving to the Hi4-T grade and this variant also pairs a 2.0-litre turbo petrol mill with an e-motor plus a 37.1 kWh ternary lithium battery pack to form a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup instead. Altogether, there’s 402 hp and 750 Nm available here.
Notably, this PHEV powertrain also boasts a CLTC-rated electric-only range of up to 105 KM plus a claimed average fuel economy as low as 8.4 litres/100 KM.
No word yet on when exactly sales in China or overseas will commence, but the former is widely tipped to take off very soon.
