2026 MG U9 4x4 Pick-Up Truck Bows In Australia
Revealed for Australia this week is the gargantuan new 2026 MG U9 4x4 pick-up truck.

Yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. You are indeed seeing pictures of a rather gargantuan new 4x4 pick-up truck launched for the Australian market by Chinese brand MG – the very same firm that made the Cyberster EV roadster, as well as the MG 5 fastback.
Say hello then to the 2026 MG U9 that’s set to go on sale Down Under very soon. Should the images sprawled here not suffice, then perhaps this mammoth truck’s dimension figures detailed in the next para should.

Sharing the same base as the Maxus Terron 9, the 2026 MG U9 is a sizeable pick-up truck at 5,500 MM long, 1,997 MM wide and 1,874 MM tall.

Starting with total footprint, the 2026 MG U9 sits 5,500 MM long with a 3,300 MM wheelbase, 1,997 MM wide and 1,874 MM tall. At the rear, this pick-up truck's flatbed measures 1,600 MM long, 1,500 MM wide and 535 MM tall.
For reference, this budding new Sino-badged alternative sits slightly longer and wider than the comparable Ford Ranger Wildtrak. As a refresher, said Ford sits 5,370 MM long with a 3,270 MM wheelbase, 1,918 MM wide and 1,884 MM tall.

Massive grille and distinct LED lighting aside, the MG U9 also boasts stylish gloss black accents all around.

Before we dive deeper, it’s perhaps worth noting that the 2026 MG U9 actually underpins the Maxus Terron 9 - both share the same platform. Thankfully, MG has done enough redesigning all around to give this redux of theirs a more distinct look.
Notably design touches include a massive grille dominating its front fascia, a pair of distinct LED headlights, black body cladding, stepboards, gloss black accents, as well as sleek LED taillights. Notable here too is the special tailgate with integrated step-ladder.

Another innovative design is the integrated step-ladder in the tailgate, as well as the foldable second-row seats and cab wall.

What’s surprising here is the promise of good on-road manners thanks to its adoption of fully independent multi-link rear suspension. In turn, despite its body-on-frame build, the 2026 MG U9 can only offer a maximum payload rating of 870 KG – the norm here is 1,000 KG.
Nevertheless, the MG U9 makes up for the reduced payload capacity through its respectable 3,500 KG towing capacity. Certainly, this is also enabled by the respectable powertrain package the U9 packs under the hood.

Under the hood, the 2026 MG U9 employs a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel 4-cyl heart rated at 217 PS and 520 Nm. Paired with it is an 8-speed automatic box and a BorgWarner 4WD system.

Sorry, despite the larger-than-life looks, the MG U9 does not pack a big beefy V8 – or V6, for that matter. Instead, the U9 adopts a 2.5-litte 4-cyl turbo-diesel lump that reportedly puts out 217 PS and a rather meaty 520 Nm.
Said oil-burner is paired with an 8-speed automatic box plus a BorgWarner-supplied full-blown 4WD system. Predictably, the powertrain also has a variety of selectable drive and terrain modes on offer, namely Eco, Normal, Sport, Mud, Snow, Sand, Tow and Custom.

On board, the 2026 MG U9 is rather fully-loaded with amenities and luxuries as far as pick-up trucks go.

On board, the 2026 MG U9 is quite a fully-loaded pick-up truck, especially in range-topping form. Present in the dash is a massive dual 12.3-inch digital displays setup with its infotainment half offering both wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Other luxuries brimmed include a wireless charging pad, 8-speaker JBL audio suite, push-start ignition, panoramic sunroof, front and rear armrests, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, as well as a dual-zone automatic climate control, amongst others.
Though it rides on road-friendly multi-link rear suspension, the MG U9 does offer a range selectable drive and terrain modes.

For Australia, the 2026 MG U9 sees its pricing kick off from AUS$52,990 (approx. RM147,405) for its base-spec ‘Explore’ grade, whereas the range-topping and fully-loaded ‘Explore Pro’ grade is tagged from AUS$60,990 (approx. RM169,660).
For now, MG brand parent SAIC Motor has no plans to offer the gargantuan 2026 MG U9 4x4 pick-up truck detailed in other right-hand-drive (RHD) markets in the region. Should things change, would you fancy one? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
