Revised 2026 Volvo EX90 Revealed
The Volvo EX90 flagship EV SUV has gained several upgrades in its revised 2026 model year guise.

Swedish luxury automaker Volvo revealed an updated 2026 model year iteration of its EX90 flagship EV SUV earlier today. Whilst it appears visually unchanged, there are several critical revisions to note underneath.
Firstly, the 2026 Volvo EX90 gains an upgraded new 800-volt EV architecture platform – it was previously underpinning a 400-volt base instead. In turn, this now brings even quicker DC charging speeds of up to 350 kW – it was previously capped at 250 kW.
Through the latter, Volvo touts the ability to add up to 250 KM of range with just 10 minutes of charging. For reference, the previous version – launched in Malaysia early this year – supports up to 250 kW of DCFC to enable 10-80% re-charges in just 30 minutes.
One critical change is the newly upgraded 800-volt base, and things bring enhanced charging speeds plus improved performance and efficiency.

Notably, the upgrade to an 800-volt base brings enhanced performance through quicker acceleration, as well as improved efficiency. However, Volvo didn’t disclose any figures for which. Instead, the marque note that that the shift also reduces material use, which in turn helps cut down both battery and e-motor weight figures.
Arguably the most critical new addition here is the new dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chips. These now grant the EX90 with ultra-high computing power rated up to 500 TOPS (trillion operations per second). This now drives the EV SUV’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) functions plus various safety features that can be improved further via over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Notably, Volvo is set to offer this enhanced computing ability to existing customers with 2025 model year versions of the EX90 via a one-time free upgrade. The automaker will prime these units with the upgraded computer mentioned, which can run on the previous 400-volt system, via a scheduled Volvo workshop visit.
Besides this, other improvements on board include real-time safety alerts for slippery roads, hazards and accidents, followed by a newly added e-call function to contact emergency services for the Emergency Stop Assist – a feature that completely halts the car in the lane if the driver suddenly becomes unresponsive.
Next, automatic emergency steering will now work in the dark and can steer the vehicle out of the lane should it detect an unavoidable vehicle or object in the case of sudden braking. Upgraded too is the Park Pilot suite, which now gains parallel parking support.
No word yet if VCM will offer the upgraded EX90 detailed, but the shift is expected nonetheless.

One last change is the addition of the electrochromic panoramic roof seen in the new ES90 flagship EV saloon – this is meant to bolster luxe levels further for the EX90.
No word yet on when this upgraded 2026 model year version will be offered locally, though we reckon it won’t take long for Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) to update this flagship for its local line-up.
As a refresher, VCM launched the EX90 alongside the updated XC90 simultaneously earlier this year priced from RM442,888 and RM418,888 respectively. You can get to know both models better through our launch report by clicking these blue words…
