Jaecoo J7 PHEV Charts 1,427 KM on A Single Tank & Charge
Jaecoo J7 PHEV exceeds expectations by charting 1,427 KM on a single tank and charge from Singapore to Thailand.
Ahead of its much-anticipated Malaysian debut later in Feb, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV just completed yet another fuel economy and range challenge, this time taking place in our own backyard. In its three-day journey from Singapore to Hatyai, Thailand, via Malaysia, the J7 PHEV has clocked in a total of 1,427.5 KM distance on a single full tank and charge, exceeding its 1,200 KM claimed WLTP range by a healthy margin of over 200 KM.
From said total combined distance, 947 KM of them were purely on petrol, which translates to a sublime fuel economy rate of only 3.5 litre per 100 KM, outperforming its claimed rate of 6.6 litre per 100 KM. Also impressive was the J7 PHEV’s all-electric performance, as the PHEV SUV achieved a purely electric driving range of 108 KM, exceeding its claimed figure by 18 KM.
This stellar journey is only made possible by the Super Hybrid System (SHS) powertrain setup used by the J7 PHEV. Comprising a 1.5-litre 4-cyl TGDi engine, a continuously-variable dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), and an 18.3-kWh battery pack, the SHS is designed with great fuel and energy efficiency in mind, but without neglecting performance.
With a combined system output of 342 HP (255 kW) and 525 NM, the J7 PHEV still comes with an impressively low fuel consumption of 3.3 litres per 100 KM, as evident from this long drive. Not to forget, the J7 PHEV also supports both AC 6.6 kW and DC 40 kW charging methods, with the latter allowing a 30-80% charge to be completed in just 20 minutes.
Commenting on this stellar success, Jaecoo Malaysia vice president Emily Lek said, “We are incredibly proud to finally demonstrate the JaecooJ7 PHEV’s performance to the local market. It has truly excelled when put to the test during the course of this journey, a testament to the Jaecoo brand promise of delivering best-in-class vehicles.”
“In addition to being the only PHEV with a direct current (DC) charging capability, our Super Hybrid System technology is the first in its class here in Malaysia. We are excited for our customers to enjoy the benefits of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV very soon,” Emily added.
Prior to this three-nation challenge, we’ve previously participated in a long drive challenge for the J7 PHEV in China, where we covered over 1,300 KM of distance across China from Guangzhou to Wuhu. Be sure to check out our first drive report here to know more about the J7 PHEV and its long-range drive capabilities.
