Jaecoo J8 Heads to 1Utama from Mar 27 to 30 – Launch Imminent?

Jaecoo Malaysia is organising a special roadshow event for the new J8 SUV, set to take place at 1Utama from Mar 27 to 30.
It’s been more than a year since Jaecoo Malaysia first showed the Jaecoo J8 SUV to the Malaysian automotive media, and this time around the three-row SUV is heading for a special roadshow event next week.
Announced via Jaecoo Malaysia’s official Facebook page, the J8 roadshow is set to take place at 1Utama from Mar 27 to 30, 2025. Also important to note that this is the first time the J8 will be shown to the Malaysian public, thus fuelling speculations that its long-awaited market debut is very imminent.

Initially shown alongside the J7 in early 2024, the J8 was originally slated for a Q4 2024 launch. That proved not to be the case, with the three-row SUV instead giving way to both the Omoda C9 and J7 PHEV to make their respective market debuts first.

Positioned as Jaecoo’s flagship SUV, the J8 is a pretty sizable vehicle, spanning 4,820 MM long, 1,930 MM wide, 1,699 MM tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,820 MM—thus making it 100 MM longer and 70 MM wider than its Wuhu-born counterpart, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. In fact, the J8 is on par with some other three-row SUVs in our market, such as the Kia Sorento, Mazda CX-8, and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Predictably, the J8 gets a pretty lavish cabin setup, with the left-hand drive (LHD) unit shown to us last year brimming with modern and luxury amenities. Key highlights include wood trims around the front dash, plush leather-wrapped front seats with both ventilated and heated functions, twin 12.3-inch displays, an expansive panoramic sunroof, a 14-speaker Sony audio system, and many more.

Although no detailed specs were confirmed for our market, the J8 is offered in both six- and seven-seater configurations, with the former trading the three-seat second-row bench for two captain-style chairs that are both ventilated and heated.

Motivation is provided by a familiar 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine—the same unit primed on the Omoda C9 and Tiggo 8 Pro—that delivers 245 HP and 385 NM. Power is sent to either the front (FWD) or all wheels (AWD) via a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Besides the full petrol version, the J8 is also available in a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain setup.
