JPJ Set To Launch eBaki For Expired Number Plates
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is developing a new online platform called eBaki to sell expired and inactive vehicle registration numbers, as revealed in the Auditor-General’s Report 2024 on the government’s financial statements.
The system, part of JPJ’s ongoing digital transformation initiative, is expected to be launched by October 2026, according to the report tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Between 2022 and 2024, JPJ earned RM1.65 billion from the sale of vehicle registration numbers.
"However, an additional RM115.96 million could be generated if blocked and inactive registration numbers were made available for sale at minimum prices," the report stated.
As of 2024, there are 375,792 expired and 134 blocked vehicle registration numbers yet to be sold.
The minimum price for these plates ranges between RM300 and RM20,000, depending on their popularity and category from “current” to “premium.” A RM10 service fee will also apply.
