KLIA Aerotrain Under Review After Recent Service Disruption
Malaysia Airports is working with the Transport Ministry and APAD to review the latest KLIA Aerotrain service breakdown which is the third power-related disruption since it began running in July.
The most recent incident on Oct 15 saw the Aerotrain temporarily halted after a power trip affecting both tracks. Passengers were safely escorted and moved between terminals using shuttle buses.
Earlier disruptions on July 12 and Sept 3 were linked to power loss caused by a dislodged component on the guideway.
"Those cases fall under Alstom, the train’s main contractor, while the latest issue involves the IJM-Pestech joint venture responsible for power systems," the firm said in a statement.
Malaysia Airports stressed that all incidents happened within the defect liability period, meaning the contractors are fully responsible for fixing the problems.
"An independent assessor will now be appointed to review the Aerotrain’s power and reliability systems," it added.
Since launching, the Aerotrain has carried more than 5.7 million passengers and completed over 42,000 trips with 99% service availability. The airport operator stressed that no passengers missed their flights and that safety remains its top priority.
