MP Questions JPJ Over Registration Of Luxury Cars With Expired Road Tax

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has criticised the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for allowing luxury vehicles to remain on the road despite their owners failing to renew road tax, a lapse he said reflects poor enforcement and has cost the country more than RM35 million in lost revenue.
“I was drawn to the Auditor-General’s Report 3/2025 on revenue collection from vehicle registration number sales
“In the JPJ’s recent Op Luxury, several luxury vehicles whose owners had not renewed their road tax or lacked insurance were seized,” he said when debating the report in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to JPJ data, Porsche owners top the list of defaulters with 4,308 vehicles collectively owing RM13.7 million in unpaid road tax.
They are followed by 660 Bentleys with RM7 million, 345 Rolls-Royces with RM6.4 million, 675 Ferraris with RM4.7 million and 372 Lamborghinis with RM3.7 million in unpaid road tax.
“I urge the ministry and enforcement agencies to take stern action against these vehicle owners,” Rayer said, stressing that such negligence particularly among high-profile individuals undermines public confidence in enforcement.

Last month, NST reported that prominent figures, including Tan Sri, politicians, and business tycoons, were among those listed as road tax defaulters, with total arrears reaching RM35.7 million.
Loke previously said the figures were derived from JPJ’s records covering five luxury car categories, urging those involved to promptly clear their dues.
