A lady driver endured a harrowing moment earlier today when her car was crushed by a steel structure that fell along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) in Batu Caves.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, said the department received an emergency call at 1.47PM and responded promptly.

“Upon assessment, the operations commander reported that part of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) construction structure had collapsed and fallen onto a Suzuki Swift,” he said Mukhlis in an official press statement.

When firefighters arrived on scene, members of the public had already managed to pull the driver, a local woman in her 40s, to safety. Seven personnel, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) from Team B were deployed to the location at 2.14PM.

Gombak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir, confirmed when contacted that the driver escaped unharmed despite the severity of the incident.

The incident quickly circulated on social media, with several videos, photos and livestreams showing the compact car trapped under a large steel beam believed to be part of the ECRL project structure. The viral clips also captured the initial moments of public rescue efforts and the chaotic aftermath as motorists slowed down to witness the scene.

Authorities are expected to assess the integrity of surrounding structures and investigate the cause of the collapse.
