PMX: Perodua EV Launch Confirmed This Month, Set to Be “National Agenda”

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Perodua’s first fully Malaysian-made electric vehicle (EV) (QV-E), set to debut at the end of this month, will be made a “national agenda”, he added. He described the upcoming model from P2 as a milestone for Malaysia’s automotive industry and a symbol of the nation’s capability to innovate.
Speaking during his recent visit to Perodua’s headquarters in Rawang to celebrate the company’s 5.5 millionth car production milestone, Anwar said the new EV embodies his administration’s Madani values of sustainability, affordability and good governance.
He said the vehicle represents what the government has been striving for — a locally designed, environmentally friendly car built with state-of-the-art technology that remains affordable for Malaysians.

Perodua EV, EMO-II rendering by Theophilus Chin, could see its final model name set as QV-E.
“This EV is sustainable, environmentally friendly, locally produced and built with the latest technology, and yet affordable. That’s what Madani means,” he said.
Anwar said he will direct the Cabinet to elevate the launch as a major national event that goes beyond the introduction of a new product, highlighting its alignment with good governance, social responsibility and environmental protection.

He also pledged to personally promote Perodua overseas as part of his international engagements, saying he would act as Perodua’s first “marketing officer” at no cost during his upcoming visits to South Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia.
“In those meetings, I’ll tell them straight that Malaysia should be given priority. That’s how we build real international partnerships,” he said.
Anwar said Perodua’s achievements demonstrate the strength and determination of Malaysian talent, noting that many of the engineers and designers behind the company’s success are Bumiputera.
“Perodua’s growth proves that with technology, discipline and good management, nothing is impossible. The EV project is not just about cars; it’s about jobs, innovation and the nation’s future,” he added.

He praised Perodua president and CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad and the entire workforce for their dedication, saying their efforts have turned Perodua into a symbol of Malaysia’s industrial strength.
He also shared a light-hearted moment, recalling that he had purchased his own Myvi years ago, and that it is still in use.

Anwar urged Perodua to make the upcoming EV an affordable national pride project that shows Malaysia can compete globally in new automotive technologies.
“With passion, skill and discipline, there’s nothing Malaysians can’t do,” he said.
Perodua president Datuk Zainal later said the Bezza 1.3L, which marked the company’s 5.5 millionth unit, remains its best-selling model since 2024, but all eyes are now on Perodua’s first EV launch at the end of the month.
