Launched: 2026 Lexus GX 550 – Two V6 Variants, From RM780,000

The third-gen Lexus GX bows in Malaysia with two 3.5L V6 variants, with prices starting from RM780,000 onwards.
Following its teaser last week, Lexus Malaysia has now launched the third-gen Lexus GX. As indicated on its official website, this three-row luxury SUV is available in two V6-powered variants, with prices starting from RM780,000 for the GX 550 Overtrail and RM830,000 for the GX 550 Luxury+.
Mind you, said prices listed above are on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.

And yes, Malaysian buyers are not getting the 2.4-litre turbo-hybrid option, as the new local-spec GX is instead being powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that delivers 349 hp and 650 Nm. Mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission and a full-time all-wheel drive (AWD) system, the GX 550 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in seven seconds flat, although its V-max is merely capped at 175 km/h.

Just like its Toyota twin, the new GX 550 underpins Toyota’s GA-F platform, although the Lexus behemoth gets a more optimised suspension geometry, featuring double-wishbone front and multi-link rear setups. On top of that, the body rigidity has also been increased to provide a quieter, more comfortable ride, while the SUV also adopts a new electric power steering (EPS) system.

Should you opt for the Overtrail variant, you’ll get some extra mechanical bits such as a locking rear differential, an Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS), and a Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system, with the latter including Dirt, Sand, Mud, Rocks, and Auto driving modes, plus the Crawl Control off-road cruise control.
As for the Luxury+, it ditches all those off-road mechanical bits for a more conventional Torsen limited-slip differential, a drive mode selector, and adaptive dampers.

2026 Lexus GX 550 Luxury+
In terms of styling, the third-gen GX gets the same boxy SUV bodystyle as the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250 with some Lexus-ification to it. Some key design highlights include Lexus’ signature spindle front grille, sharp LED lighting units with L-shaped DRLs, and more.

2026 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail
The Overtrail variant gets some extra off-road-inspired design bits, including the more aggressive bumpers with metal skid plates, more prominent roof rails, and 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels shod in all-terrain tyres. The Luxury+, on the other hand, swaps the off-road wheels for larger 22-inch units.
Last but not least, the GX 550 Luxury+ gets up to six exterior colour options, while the Overtrail settles for four, including the special Moon Desert option.

Inside, the GX gets a much posher cabin setup than the Prado, featuring Lexus’ Tazuna cabin concept laced in faux Tsuyasumi oak wood veneer trim. Some key tech highlights include a 12.3-inch digital metre cluster, a 14-inch central infotainment system with no ‘Remote Touch’ physical control, a dual-zone A/C system with Lexus Climate Concierge, and a Pioneer sound system for the Overtrail or a posher 23-speaker Mark Levinson Premium audio system for the Luxury+.

As for their seats, the Overtrail gets powered, ventilated, and heated front seats with driver’s side memory wrapped in faux leather upholstery. Typically, the Luxury+ ups the ante by featuring lumbar support and four-way headrest adjustments to both front seats while retaining the three-row, seven-seat layout.
On the safety front, the new GX comes with seven airbags, plus a full suite of the Lexus Safety System+ ADAS system, which includes functions like autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC) with stop and go, lane centering assist (LCA), blind spot monitoring (BSM), rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), traffic sign recognition (TSR), door opening warning (DOW), and many more.
