Michelin Announces New AI-Powered Tyre Tech Ahead of CES 2026

Michelin announces new SmartWear & SmartLoad systems that will use AI to monitor the tyre’s condition.
Besides cars, it seems like tyres are also about to get smarter, as Michelin announces its new SmartWear and SmartLoad tyre systems that are set to revolutionise the industry. Announced ahead of its full debut at the upcoming 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next year, these new systems will be directly integrated into the tyres themselves, using artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor the wear and provide real-time feedback on their condition.

Developed in partnership with tech firm Sonatus, both the SmartWear and SmartLoad systems are able to analyse vehicle signals like braking intensity, vehicle load, cornering forces, and other dynamic conditions to provide real-time insights into the condition of the tyres.
Michelin ambitiously stated that these new systems could eventually replace conventional tyre monitoring techs like Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and this change could potentially lead to cost savings of as much as $1.68 billion (RM6.815 billion) globally by 2030.

According to Michelin, the system works seamlessly with the Sonatus Collector artificial intelligence and can be configured across different vehicle types. To ensure security and privacy, all tyre data is stored within the vehicle itself rather than being saved to the cloud, which Michelin thought would bode well with many automakers out there.
“Michelin SmartLoad and SmartWear showcase how our expertise in tire physics and modelling turns complex data into clear, predictive insights,” said Ali Rezgui, vice president of Michelin Tire Digital Twin.
“These solutions help automakers and fleets extend tire life, improve safety, reduce costs, and support sustainable mobility. Michelin SmartWear and SmartLoad are the first building blocks of a full portfolio that will enable the OEMs to have Tire Digital Twin in their vehicles.”

While no specific launch dates were given, Michelin and Sonatus will also be demonstrating the technology at the upcoming CES 2026, where visitors can check out the tyre health information in real time via Michelin’s MyTires app.
Prior to these AI-powered systems by Michelin, several other tyre brands have also attempted to create their own intelligent tyre technology, with the most notable being Pirelli’s Cyber Tyre, which was developed in collaboration with Bosch.
