Chery Launches First Himla EV Pick-Up in China

Less than a year after it was first previewed at Auto Shanghai 2025 in internal combustion engine (ICE) form, Chery Group has now launched the all-electric (EV) variant of the pick-up under its Rely brand, known globally under the Himla marque. The move signals Chery’s serious push into the pick-up segment, with the brand positioned from the outset as a multi-market, multi-powertrain offering.
The first production EV model is offered in six variants, priced between RMB127,800 (RM73,000) and RMB158,800 (RM90,000), making it one of the more accessible electric pick-ups in its segment.

Built on a body-on-frame chassis, the Himla EV stays true to traditional pick-up fundamentals despite its electric drivetrain. It is offered in both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations, catering to buyers focused on either utility or performance.

Design-wise, the Himla EV adopts a bold and functional look. A large polygonal front grille with honeycomb-patterned elements dominates the front, while the RELY badge sits prominently on the bonnet. Its overall proportions and stance place it firmly in the midsize pick-up category.

Two body styles are available in China, in standard and long box form. The standard model measures 5,330mm in length, while the long box extends to 5,610mm, offering increased cargo bed depth without compromising overall usability.
Inside, the cabin prioritises comfort and technology. Depending on the variant, buyers get either a 12.3-inch or 15.6-inch central touchscreen, paired with a digital instrument cluster, a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and a two-tone interior finish.

Higher variants also gain advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.
Power for the EV range comes from either a single rear-mounted motor producing 150 kW (201 hp) and 350 Nm, or a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup delivering a combined 300 kW (402 hp) and 540 Nm. The latter enables a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 5.0 seconds, while battery options of 66.54 kWh and 88 kWh provide driving ranges of up to 510 km (CLTC).

Beyond the EV variant, Himla is also offered with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 161 hp and 420 Nm, which is already on sale in selected Latin American markets.

For Malaysia, the possibility cannot be ruled out. With Chery Malaysia’s Lembah Beringin High Tech facility expected to be operational later this year, the foundation is in place for CKD production, regional volumes, and potential exports.
For now, it is a case of wait and see, but Himla is shaping up to be a credible challenger in a segment long dominated by familiar names.
