Fallen Tree Disrupts KTMB Services Again, Safety Concerns Grow
Another fallen tree has once again disrupted KTMB’s rail services, raising concerns about safety and maintenance along Malaysia’s train corridors.
The latest incident happened yesterday morning between Rembau and Tampin, when a tree collapsed onto the tracks and knocked out the power supply, bringing ETS and KTM Komuter services to a crawl.
The disruption occurred at around 10.08AM at KM494.25 and forced trains to operate on a single track. As a result, passengers on several routes faced lengthy delays, with some ETS services running up to two hours late, while other ETS and Komuter trips between JB Sentral, KL Sentral, Batu Caves and Tampin were delayed by about an hour.
KTMB confirmed that the fallen tree has since been cut and removed, and repair works on the affected electrical system are currently underway.
What’s worrying is that this wasn’t a tree from KTM’s own reserve area. In fact, the company revealed that a similar incident in Dec caused damage to 12 cantilever tubes, pointing to a recurring problem rather than a one-off event.
The rail operator warned that without proper tree management, such disruptions could continue, causing serious delays and posing safety risks to passengers.
To prevent future incidents, KTM said it has begun identifying landowners and authorities responsible for land bordering the railway lines, including local councils and private owners.
"Official letters have been issued to alert them to the risks and to call for preventive action, although responses are still pending," it said in a statement.

KTMB also reminded that under the Local Government Act 1976, local councils are legally obliged to manage and trim trees that could endanger public infrastructure. The firm is now urging the relevant parties to step in quickly, stressing that proactive maintenance is crucial to keeping train services safe, reliable and disruption-free.
