Next-Gen Mitsubishi Pajero Teased In Latest Ralliart Video

Looks like Mitsubishi has teased an upcoming new sixth-gen iteration of its Pajero SUV nameplate.

It looks like the Mitsubishi Pajero SUV nameplate is set to see a new fifth-generation iteration. This comes following an alleged teaser appearance in an official Ralliart New Year’s Day promotional video (embedded below).

Though the SUV was veiled in the video, we can instead see its distinct LED DRL arrangement. What’s practically clear is the silhouette of the SUV’s body – it’s very distinct from the Triton pick-up truck, which sources online allege it underpins.

Unclear for now is what will power the fifth-generation Pajero. However, should it be based on the current Triton as alleged, we could see this SUV-bodied twin share the same 2.4-litre 4-cyl twin-turbo diesel mill which puts out 204 PS and 470 Nm.

Certainly, this new fifth-gen Pajero model teased could also serve as a successor to the also ageing third-gen Pajero Sport model. Said offshoot is present still in production in neighbouring Thailand but is already a decade old now.

Like past generation Pajero models, this new fifth-gen iteration could also be marketed with different names depending on which market – past versions were sold as either the Shogun or Montero due to what “Pajero” translates to in the Spanish language.

What’s unclear too is when, though given this start-of-the-year teaser, the rumours of it launching in the Japanese market at the end of this year (2026) appears very viable to say the least. In fact, a prototype could be shown this month too.

Closer to home, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) last offered the second-gen Mitsubishi Pajero sport locally until 2016 when it was discontinued. The heavily face-lifted third-gen successor was not officially offered either.

That could change in the future considering that MMM is now gearing up to expand its local line-up with more crossovers and SUVs. In fact, the long awaited made-for-ASEAN XForce B-SUV was recently sighted locally, suggesting it will launch soon.
