Fresh leaks from China suggest BYD is developing a second-generation megawatt flash charging system that could significantly raise ultra-fast charging limits.

Images and forum discussions cited by CarNewsChina point to peak output of up to 1,500 kW and 1,500 A, a clear step up from the company’s first-generation megawatt chargers introduced in 2025.

Leaked technical data indicates a maximum DC voltage of 1,000 V and total input capacity exceeding 2,000 kW, pointing to improved grid management alongside higher charging speeds.

Some online reports claim the new stations can deliver around 1.36 MW in real-world use, supporting 10C-plus charging and adding roughly 400 km of range in about five minutes for compatible high-voltage EVs.

Chargers reportedly installed in Nanchang are said to feature a compact dual-gun design with liquid-cooled cables, intelligent power distribution and increased onboard energy storage to support consecutive charging sessions.

BYD’s first-generation system supported up to 1,000 kW and 1,000 A and was introduced alongside its high-voltage electric platform in March 2025.

The next iteration is reportedly compatible with a wide 500–1,000 V operating range, while existing stations may be upgradeable to around 500 kW. A lower-power version aimed at broader vehicle compatibility is also rumoured.

By late 2025, BYD had deployed more than 500 megawatt-class charging stations across more than 200 Chinese cities, with further expansion expected in 2026.

Ultra-fast charging is becoming increasingly competitive in China, with automakers and technology firms pushing well beyond the 500 kW level.
