Hongqi HS6 PHEV Breaks Guinness Records in Extreme Cold
Chinese automaker Hongqi is making headlines with its HS6 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV that has just set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled in sub-zero temperatures without refueling.
The HS6 covered 1,131.133 km in temperatures below -20℃ using a standard, unmodified vehicle, showcasing the SUV’s endurance and reliability even in extreme cold.
This record adds to the HS6 PHEV’s growing list of achievements. Back in November last year, the SUV already claimed a Guinness World Record for the longest distance driven by a plug-in hybrid SUV on a full charge and full fuel without refueling, covering 2,327.343 km.

These milestones underline Hongqi’s growing reputation for plug-in hybrid efficiency and long-range performance.
For the record, the Hongqi HS6 PHEV launched in December last year with a price range of 178,800 to 228,800 yuan. It features a 1.5T plug-in hybrid engine producing up to 110 kW (148 hp).
Depending on the configuration, the SUV can be front-wheel drive (FWD) with a 168 kW (225 hp) electric motor or all-wheel drive (AWD) with an additional 201 kW (270 hp) rear motor.

Battery options include 23 kWh and 40 kWh lithium iron phosphate packs, offering impressive range figures.
Under CLTC conditions, the FWD 23 kWh version delivers 148 km of pure electric range and 1,580 km overall, the FWD 40 kWh model reaches 248 km EV range and 1,650 km overall, while the AWD 40 kWh version offers 225 km electric range and 1,460 km overall.
Fast charging is quick and convenient, taking just 15 minutes to recharge from 20% to 80% under 4C fast charging.

With these recent Guinness World Records, the Hongqi HS6 PHEV proves that plug-in hybrid SUVs can handle extreme conditions while offering long-range capability.
