Report: GWM Ora Good Cat EV Production & Sale Ends In Thailand
It appears that local production (CKD) of the GWM Ora Good Cat EV hatch in Thailand have ceased, and GWM Thailand have reportedly stopped its sales too.

Reports have surfaced in Thailand indicating that production and sales of the GWM Ora Good Cat have ceased in said Kingdom just north of our peninsular’s border.
Said electric vehicle (EV) hatch has been on sale there for about four years and is widely credited to have sparked the EV phenomenon in Thailand. It was also the first battery electric vehicle (BEV) to be built locally (CKD) in Thailand since 2022.
Reports coming out of the Kingdom further indicate that GWM Thailand are set to replace the Ora Good Cat there with the new Ora 5 - essentially a larger and lifted crossover SUV redux.

GWM Thailand managing director Wayne Zhou reportedly stated that the decision stems from the firm completing both production and sales requirements set under Thailand’s EV3.0 incentive. The exec adds that the firm is already preparing to introduce a successor.
"We are discontinuing the Good Cat to pave the way for a new chapter of the Ora family in Thailand," said the exec. Reports also indicate that the successor mentioned will be the Ora 5 – essentially a larger and lifted crossover SUV redux of the Good Cat that bowed recently.

Notably, production of the new model mentioned will see GWM Thailand striving to meet requirements of both the aforementioned EV3.0 and new EV3.5 incentives programmes set by the Thai government – both mandates domestic production to offset imports.
GWM Thailand has reportedly committed to building 14,500 units within two years, thus replacing fully imported (CBU) units from its native China. For reference, the firm shifted 20,827 units – both CKD and CBU – of the Ora Good Cat in Thailand since launch.
The CKD effort saw Thai-made Ora Good Cat units being exported to key markets like Australia and Brazil, not forgetting neighbouring Malaysia.

Moreover, Thai-built Ora Good Cat units have also been exported overseas. This included exports to key markets like Australia and Brazil, as well as neighbouring Malaysia.
Despite the discontinuation, GWM Thailand reiterated its commitment to maintain after-sales support for existing Good Cat owners. For which, the firm recently launched its “7 Days Spare Parts Readiness Guarantee” program too.
The GWM Ora Good Cat when it was first launched in Malaysia back in late 2022. At said point, the model was imported from China instead.

Notably, this development in Thailand from the Chinese brand could soon affect sales of the Ora Good Cat model here in Malaysia. As a recap, the model first arrived in Malaysia in late 2022 as China CBU units with two variants available – 400 Pro and 500 Ultra.
The line-up was refreshed in Nov 2025 with the 400 Pro variant dropped, whilst the 500 Ultra variant was retained and featuring minor design tweaks plus new colourways inside and out. It was also joined by a sportier new ‘GT’ variant added into the line-up then.
For its 2025MY refresh, the Ora Good Cat also arrived in Malaysia with a newly added and much sportier GT guise.

Critically, said refresh saw GWM Malaysia switching from China-made CBU units to Thai-made CBU units. With the latter’s reported end, it could perhaps prompt a reversion back to the former units, though this remains uncertain for a few reasons.
Firstly, whilst the updated 2025MY GWM Ora Good Cat range remains listed as available on GWM Malaysia’s website, Carz.com.my understands the listed prices reflect available tax-free stocks imported prior to the Dec 28, 2025 cut-off date.

Could the incoming Thai-made GWM Ora 5 crossover SUV successor be exported to Malaysia and replace the Good Cat model too?

With its Thai counterparts gearing up to switching its production to the Ora 5 EV SUV successor mentioned, we won’t discount the possibility of said successor replacing the Good Cat here in Malaysia in due time too.
Of course, much of this boils down to local demands. What say you, then? Would you still be keen on the Good Cat if it were still on sale? If so, what would be a fair price? Or would you rather switch to the larger crossover SUV redux noted instead? Hit the comments below…
