Why GWM WEY G9 PHEV is Engineered for "Worst-Case Scenarios"
![]()
When most people go shopping for a luxury MPV, they look at the massage seats and the big screens. But if you’re a parent, the most important feature is the one you hope you’ll never have to use: the safety cage.
In Malaysia, our roads can be unpredictable. From sudden downpours to heavy highway traffic, "worst-case scenarios" are a reality we have to think about. Here is how the GWM WEY G9 PHEV is built to act as a fortress for your family when things go wrong.
1. A Roof Stronger Than Two Elephants

Imagine a worst-case rollover. The only thing protecting your head is the car's roof pillars. The WEY G9 is built with a roof that can withstand 12 tons of pressure.
To put that in perspective, that’s like stacking two adult African elephants on top of the car without the roof collapsing. This is possible because GWM used Ultra-High-Strength Steel in the frame, the same kind of tough material used in high-end security vehicles.
2. The "3,000mm" Safety Blanket
Most cars have side airbags, but they usually only protect the people in the front and middle. If you have kids sitting in the third row, they are often left out.

The G9 is different. It features a massive 3-meter long side air curtain. It’s like a giant safety blanket that pops out and covers all three rows of seats. Even better, it’s designed to stay inflated for 6 seconds, long enough to keep protecting your family even if the car gets hit a second time.
3. A Brain That Stops the Car For You
Accidents are messy. Often, after the first "thump," the car keeps rolling into other vehicles or off the road because the driver is in shock.
The G9 has a feature called Second Collision Mitigation. Think of it as a backup brain. If the car senses it’s been in a crash, it automatically slams on the brakes for you. This stops the car from moving further, preventing a small accident from turning into a much bigger one.
4. Protecting the "Heart" of the Car
Because the G9 is a hybrid, it carries a large battery. Some people worry about battery safety in a crash. GWM thought of this and wrapped the battery in multiple layers of protection, four layers on the sides and six on the bottom. It’s essentially a "box within a box" to make sure the energy stays exactly where it should, even in a heavy impact.
Peace of Mind for the School Run
We buy MPVs for the space and the comfort, but we choose the WEY G9 for the peace of mind. It’s nice to know that while you’re enjoying the massage seats, there’s a high-tech "bodyguard" made of super-strong steel and smart sensors watching over your family.
At the end of the day, that’s the real luxury.
