Summary

The Kia EV6 is a fully electric crossover built on Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), combining a low-slung fastback shape with dual-motor performance and an advanced 800-VOLT charging architecture.

Malaysia received a single fully imported EV6 GT-Line AWD variant. Its final official Peninsular Malaysia on-the-road price without insurance stood at RM319,668.

Power comes from dual electric motors producing a combined 239 KW (320 HP) and 605 NM, paired with a 77.4 KWH lithium-ion battery. Maximum driving range is 506 KM WLTP, while 0-100 KM/H takes 5.2 seconds.

The Malaysian EV6 is no longer sold new, and the newer facelifted 84 KWH version introduced internationally was never launched locally.

Interior

Dashboard

The cabin centres around a curved dual-screen arrangement comprising two 12.3-INCH displays.

One serves as the fully digital instrument cluster, while the second functions as the central infotainment touchscreen.

The dashboard adopts a driver-focused layout with relatively few conventional buttons and extensive horizontal trim.

Centre Console

A floating centre console creates additional storage beneath the main control area.

It incorporates a rotary Shift-By-Wire gear selector, cup holders, wireless smartphone charging and vehicle controls.

The flat E-GMP floor also creates a greater sense of openness between the front occupants.

Instrument Cluster

A 12.3-INCH fully digital instrument cluster displays speed, battery charge, remaining range, regenerative braking and driver-assistance information.

Blind-Spot View Monitor can display a live camera image of the adjacent lane within the cluster when the turn indicator is activated.

Seats

The Malaysian GT-Line features black suede upholstery with white leatherette accents.

Both front seats are electrically adjustable and feature Kia’s Premium Relaxation function, allowing them to recline significantly while the vehicle is stationary.

Front-seat ventilation is standard, while the driver receives memory functionality and both front occupants receive lumbar adjustment.

The rear seats fold in a 60:40 split.

Space

The EV6 accommodates five occupants.

Its long 2,900 MM wheelbase and flat floor provide generous front and rear legroom despite the relatively low exterior roofline.

Rear passengers benefit from the absence of a conventional transmission tunnel, although the fastback roof shape limits headroom compared with more upright SUVs.

Steering Functions

A multifunction steering wheel provides controls for audio, Bluetooth, voice recognition and driver-assistance functions.

Both tilt and telescopic adjustment are provided.

Paddles behind the steering wheel control regenerative braking levels rather than conventional gears.

A heated steering wheel is also fitted.

Storage Space

Storage is provided through the glove compartment, large door pockets, floating centre-console area and centre armrest.

Additional storage beneath the console benefits from the dedicated EV platform’s flat floor.

The EV6 also provides a small luggage compartment beneath the bonnet.

Cup Holders

The EV6 provides two front and two rear cup holders.

The front pair is integrated into the centre console, while the rear pair is located within the fold-down centre armrest.

Charging Ports

The cabin provides four USB-C ports, with two at the front and another two positioned for rear passengers.

A Qi wireless smartphone charger is also standard.

Two 12 V power sockets are provided, while the high-voltage battery additionally supports 3.6 KW Vehicle-to-Load functionality.

Build Quality

The cabin combines suede, leatherette, soft-touch surfaces and metallic detailing.

GT-Line-specific trim, silver interior door handles and metal pedals provide a sportier atmosphere.

Ambient lighting further enhances the cabin presentation, while the wide glass-panel display gives the dashboard a modern appearance.

Boot Space

Rear luggage capacity stands at 520 L with the second-row seats upright.

Folding the 60:40 rear seats increases maximum cargo capacity to approximately 1,300 L.

A further 20 L front luggage compartment provides useful storage for charging accessories and smaller items.

Exterior

Body Dimensions

The EV6 measures 4,695 MM long, 1,890 MM wide and 1,550 MM tall, with a substantial 2,900 MM wheelbase.

Ground clearance stands at approximately 160 MM, while kerb weight is around 2,105 KG.

Despite being classified as a crossover, its low roofline and relatively long body give the EV6 proportions closer to a sporty fastback.

Front View

The EV6 features Kia’s distinctive Digital Tiger Face design.

A low bonnet flows into slim lighting units and a wide lower intake, while the GT-Line receives a more aggressive front apron with body-coloured wheel-arch cladding and gloss-black detailing.

Active aerodynamic management and a largely enclosed nose help improve efficiency.

Rear View

The rear is one of the EV6’s most distinctive design elements.

A wide curved LED lighting strip sweeps across the tailgate and into the rear quarters, while a large roof spoiler and sculpted lower bumper reinforce its sporty character.

A hands-free Smart Power Tailgate is standard.

Headlamps

The Malaysian GT-Line uses dual LED projector headlamps.

Automatic headlamp operation, LED daytime running lights and High Beam Assist are standard.

The sharp lighting graphics complement the EV6’s low and wide front appearance.

Tail Lamps

The EV6 features full-LED rear combination lamps extending across almost the entire width of the rear.

LED rear fog lamps are also provided.

The curved lighting treatment remains one of the EV6’s most recognisable exterior design features.

Side Mirror

Exterior mirrors feature electric adjustment and automatic folding.

Integrated LED direction indicators are standard.

Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist monitors surrounding traffic, while mirror settings can also be linked with the driver’s memory function.

Brakes

The EV6 uses ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid rear discs.

Regenerative braking works together with the friction brakes and can be adjusted through steering-wheel paddles.

Standard electronic systems include ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control.

Wheels

The Malaysian EV6 GT-Line rides on 20-INCH alloy wheels.

These are fitted with 255/45 R20 tyres.

The large wheel and tyre package contributes to the GT-Line’s muscular stance while providing sufficient grip for its 605 NM dual-motor drivetrain.

Features

Active Safety

Active safety equipment includes ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control.

Hill Start Assist, Auto Hold, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and regenerative braking are also fitted.

A 360-degree Surround View Monitor and front and rear parking sensors provide additional low-speed assistance.

Passive Safety

The EV6 features seven airbags, comprising dual front airbags, front-side airbags, curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag.

Five three-point seat belts, seatbelt reminders and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points are provided.

Rear Occupant Alert and Safe Exit Assist further improve passenger protection when the vehicle is stationary.

Drive Modes

Selectable driving programmes include Eco, Normal and Sport.

These alter accelerator response, steering characteristics and drivetrain behaviour.

Regenerative braking can also be adjusted through several levels using the steering-wheel paddles, including strong one-pedal-style deceleration.

Infotainment

A 12.3-INCH central touchscreen forms the main infotainment interface.

Functions include Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The screen is integrated visually with the matching 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster to form a wide curved display.

Driver Assistance

The EV6 comes with a comprehensive Kia Drive Wise assistance package.

Functions include Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Following Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning functionality.

Also included are Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot View Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning and High Beam Assist.

Remote Smart Parking Assist allows the EV6 to move forwards or backwards using the key fob and can also assist with parallel or perpendicular parking.

Sound System

The EV6 GT-Line features a premium 14-speaker Meridian sound system.

The setup includes a dedicated amplifier and subwoofer together with Active Sound Design, providing a more immersive audio experience throughout the cabin.

Performance

Engine

Being fully electric, the EV6 uses two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, with one positioned at each axle.

The front motor produces approximately 74 KW (99 HP) and 255 NM, while the rear motor develops approximately 165 KW (221 HP) and 350 NM.

Combined maximum output stands at 239 KW (320 HP) and 605 NM.

Transmission

The EV6 uses a single-speed automatic electric reduction transmission.

Both electric motors provide immediate torque without conventional multi-speed gear changes.

Drivetrain

The Malaysian EV6 GT-Line features dual-motor all-wheel drive.

Electronic control continuously varies torque between the front and rear axles depending on acceleration demand, traction and efficiency requirements.

Acceleration

The EV6 GT-Line AWD accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 5.2 seconds.

Maximum speed stands at approximately 185 KM/H.

The instant 605 NM of torque provides particularly strong overtaking performance despite the crossover’s 2.1-tonne kerb weight.

Fuel Consumption

As a fully electric vehicle, the EV6 consumes no petrol or diesel.

Its 77.4 KWH lithium-ion battery provides up to 506 KM WLTP range.

AC charging is supported at up to 11 KW, with a 10-100% recharge taking approximately 7 hours 20 minutes.

The E-GMP platform uses an advanced 800-VOLT electrical architecture while also supporting 400-VOLT chargers through voltage conversion.

Maximum DC charging support reaches the 350 KW charger class, enabling a 10-80% recharge in approximately 18 minutes under ideal conditions.

A 3.6 KW V2L system allows the traction battery to power compatible external appliances.

Comfort

Convenience

Standard equipment includes Smart Key keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, automatic flush door handles, rain-sensing wipers and a hands-free powered tailgate.

A powered tilt-and-slide sunroof, Qi wireless smartphone charger and electrically adjustable Premium Relaxation front seats further improve everyday comfort.

Remote Smart Parking Assist is particularly useful when parking in narrow spaces.

Rear Air Vents

The EV6 features dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated rear air-conditioning vents.

Second-row passengers therefore receive direct airflow from vents positioned at the rear of the centre-console area.

Ride Comfort

The EV6 uses MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link independent rear arrangement.

Its long 2,900 MM wheelbase, wide track and low-mounted battery contribute to a stable and composed ride.

The GT-Line’s 20-inch wheels and relatively low-profile tyres create a firmer ride than smaller-wheel EV6 configurations offered overseas, but body control remains strong.

Sound Insulation

The electric drivetrain eliminates conventional combustion-engine vibration and most mechanical noise.

Aerodynamic optimisation and extensive cabin insulation help maintain refinement at highway speeds.

Tyre noise from the large 20-inch wheels can become noticeable over rougher surfaces, although overall isolation remains appropriate for a premium electric crossover.

Wrap Up

Conclusion

The Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD remains one of the most technically significant EVs introduced to Malaysia, particularly because of its dedicated E-GMP architecture and extremely rapid charging capability.

Its 320 HP and 605 NM dual-motor drivetrain delivers 0-100 KM/H in 5.2 seconds, while the 77.4 KWH battery provides 506 KM WLTP range.

Its equipment list was also particularly comprehensive, including Premium Relaxation front seats, ventilation, 14-speaker Meridian audio, powered sunroof, 360-degree camera, Blind-Spot View Monitor and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

The key technical highlight remains its 800-VOLT architecture, allowing a 10-80% recharge in only approximately 18 minutes when connected to suitable high-powered DC infrastructure.

However, its final RM319,668 OTR price placed it well into premium-brand territory, and the Malaysian EV6 was eventually discontinued without the newer facelifted 84 KWH model being introduced locally.

Despite that, its combination of 506 KM WLTP range, AWD performance, V2L capability and ultra-fast charging means the EV6 remains an impressive benchmark among the earlier generation of dedicated-platform EVs sold in Malaysia.
