Ora 07

Great Wall Motor (GWM) has made its mark in Malaysia yet again with the launch of its second electric vehicle (EV), the ORA 7.

The four-door e-fastback (D-Segment) underpins GWM’s L.E.M.O.N platform, and is known as the Lighting Cat/Grand Cat in other markets.

Fully-imported (CBU - China), offered are two variants (Long Range Ultra - MYR 169,800, Performance - MYR 189,800).

Prices (w/o OTR costs) cover a six-year/150,000 KM vehicle warranty, a 12-year body warranty, and an eight-year/180,000 KM battery warranty (1-to-1 battery replacement - <70%).

Early bird package (first 500 units) gets an extended eight-year/180,000 KM vehicle warranty and a complimentary AC wallbox charger. 

Three exterior colours (Amethyst Grey, Crystal Purple, Jade White). Two interior colours (Black-default/Brown-MYR 2,500 - Long Range Ultra, Brown - Performance).

Built with seamless lines, the tiered dashboard of the ORA 07 is sportily elegant, linked to a T-shaped centre console with trigger and rotary dials.

Leather-wrapped (Black - Long Range, Black/Brown - Performance) with metal trims, the layout sees a tri-gauged instrument cluster and a floating-style infotainment unit.

Overall, the layout is airy and non-cluttered, with every accessibility ergonomically positioned and driver-centric.

Installed is a 10.25-Inch tri-gauge digital instrument cluster with a Windshield Heads-Up Display (W-HUD).

Luxurious, interior of the five-seater is upholstered in faux leather, and comes in two hues (Black - Long Range, Brown - Performance).

Installed are electronic-powered ergonomic seats (front - six-way driver, four-way passenger) with ventilation, massage, and memory and welcome functions (driver).

The rear comes with a bench seat (60:40 split-fold), featuring a centre armrest (fold-out) and adjustable headrests.

Enhancing the environment is a dome-style panoramic glass roof (full roof, power-tile/slide), and an ambient lighting system (256 colours, rhythmic).

For a four-door e-fastback, the interior provides comfortable seatings with generous head, leg and shoulder rooms for all five occupants.

Several practical spaces available. E.g., centre console caverned and partitioned spaces, a decent-sized glove box, and seat back and side door pockets.

Mounted is a leather-wrapped steering wheel, in a three-spoke design, finished in Black (Long Range Ultra) and Brown (Performance) with metal trims.

Features are multi-function buttons (media, vehicle telematics), column adjustments (four-way manual), and a column electronic gear shifter.

Aiding the drive is an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system, and three steering modes (Light, Comfort, Sport).

Provided are three cup holders, one located at the front centre console and two at the rear seating’s centre armrest. Bottle holders, four with each located at the side door pockets.

Incorporated are one 12-V power socket (front), four USB ports (two-front, two-rear), and a wireless charger (front).

Also included is a 3.3-KW Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) function for powering of external devices. 

Accessing its powered-tailgate (key fob) opens up to 333-Litres of load capacity.

The ORA 07 stands at 4,871 MM in length, 1,862 MM in width, 1,500 MM in height, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,870 MM.

Sporty and sleek with overall rounded contours, it has a modernised exterior infused with classic sports car essence.

The front-end sees a forward-dipping bonnet, pontoon-style fenders, and a full-faced bumper with a lower active air-intake grille. 

Heightening the outlook are frameless doors with hidden handles, frameless side windows with Chrome surrounds, and the ORA emblem (bumper).

A seamless and flowing silhouette, it complements the overall design with a sporty fastback sloping-style roofline.

The rear-end sees an electric-retractable spoiler, pontoon-style fenders, and a bumper with horizontally-sculpted lines.

Accentuating the outlook are frameless doors with hidden handles, frameless side windows with Chrome surrounds, and the ORA script (tailgate).

Oval-shaped, the headlamps installed are Intelligent LED units, with ring-like LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), automatic On/Off, Follow-Me-Home function, and High Beam Assist (HBA).

The tail lamps are in an elongated-oval framing. Installed are full LED units, with ring-like light graphics. Paired to the set at the bottom corners are slit-like LED fog lamps.

Body-coloured, the side mirrors are electronically-powered (auto-fold, adjust), with Blind-Spot Detection (BSD) indicators, heating function, and Car Wash mode (auto-close).

Mounted are ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes, featuring Silver (Long Range Ultra) and Red (Performance) callipers (front, rear).

Aiding the drive are Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold, Regenerative Braking (Low, Normal, High), Single Pedal Control (Long Range Ultra), and Brake Electronic Booster.

Variant Long Range Ultra latches the ground with a set of 18-Inch multi-spoke Silver alloy rims, rubbered-up in 235/50 R18 Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 3 EV tyres.

Variant Performance grips in a set of 19-Inch multi-spoke two-tone alloy rims, rubbered-up in 235/45 R19 Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres.

The ORA 07 features a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Passive safety includes six airbags (driver-passenger, front side, front-rear curtain), front passenger airbag switch, seat belts (pretensioners, anchors, reminders), ISOFIX (outer rear seats), auto collision unlock, parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree surround view), parking sensors (six - front/rear), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system, automatic-defogging system (front - windshield, side windows), rear windscreen electric heating/defrosting, Event Data Recorder (EDR), tyre repair kit, and anti-theft and engine immobiliser.

Variant Long Range Ultra features five drive modes (Normal, Well-Being, Sport, Eco, Individual).

Variant Performance features six drive modes (Normal, Well-Being, Sport, Sport+/Turbo Mode, Eco, Individual).

Standard are three steering modes (Light, Comfort, Sport).

Mounted is a 12.3-Inch floating-landscaped colour touchscreen. 

Features are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wired/wireless), navigation, Bluetooth, USB, and Super I Space function (Sweet Mode, Cave Time - interior ambient auto settings).

Entertainment is channelled via an 11-speaker setup of the Infinity sound system.

Embedded in the ORA 07 are two variant-specific electric motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM) setups.

Variant Long Range Ultra nestles a single electric motor (front-mounted), producing 150 KW/201 HP and 340 NM of torque.

Variant Performance fuses two electric motors (front-rear-mounted), generating 300 KW/402 HP and 680 NM of torque.

Mated to the setups is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Variant Long Range Ultra sees a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) setup, while variant Performance sees an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) setup.

0 to 100 KM/H is done in 7.9 seconds (Long Range Ultra) and 4.3 seconds (Performance). Top speed is 170 KM (Long Range Ultra) and 180 KM/H (Performance).

Powering the setups is a Ternary Lithium (NMC - Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery (83.5 KWH), providing a total driving range (WLTP) of 640 KM (Long Range Ultra) and 550 KM (Performance).

AC charging (Type 2 - 11 KW), takes 15 hours for a 0% to 100% State of Charge (SoC). DC charging (CCS2 - 88 KW), takes 32 minutes for a 30% to 80% SoC.

Also included is a 3.3-KW Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) function for powering of external devices.

Ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time. The e-fastback delivers a comfortable and light steering feel, smooth overall electric performance at all speeds.

Installed setup is Macpherson struts (front), and multi-link (rear) suspensions.

Good sound insulation with most of the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The ride is quiet, refined and the cabin is mostly muted.

An extra sound dampening feature comes in the form of acoustic glass (front - soundproof - windshield, doors).

The ORA 07 exudes a sporty and classy outlook. A sleek and rounded design language that features seamless and flowing body contours.

Interior-wise, its sportily airy and premium-featured layout, provides a sense of comfort and easy connectivity to the occupants.

Ultimately, inside and out the build quality is satisfactory, and with its modern-classic outlook, the ORA 07 is truly a contender in its segment.
