Tesla’s highly-anticipated and newly-upgraded all-electric crossover SUV, codenamed ‘Project Juniper, the 2025 Tesla Model Y.

Fully-imported (CBU - China), available are two variants (Model Y RWD - MYR 195,450, Model Y Long Range AWD - MYR 242,450) with a limited-release ‘Launch Series’ guise.

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover a Basic Vehicle Warranty (four years/80,000 KM), and a Battery/Drive Unit Warranty (eight years/160,000 KM - Model Y RWD, 192,000 KM - Model Y Long Range AWD).

Five exterior colours (Stealth Grey - standard, Pearl White Multi-Coat - MYR 5,000, Glacier Blue - MYR 7,500, Quicksilver - MYR 11,000, Ultra Red - MYR 11,000).

Base prices (w-w/o add-ons) aside, total costs comprise of delivery/admin fee (MYR 500), number plate fee (MYR 200) and non-refundable order fee (MYR 1,000).

Upgraded, the Model Y has a neatly-minimalistic and symmetrically-tiered dashboard, linked to a high-rising-wide centre console (gear lever-deleted).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, door panels), it sees a single-tone (Black) colour scheme. Optional (MYR 5,000) is a dual-tone (Black-White) colour scheme.

Accentuations are contrast trims (Aluminium) and ‘Launch Series’ emblem (centre console - ‘Launch Series’).

Installed is a 15.4-Inch HD touchscreen central display (instrument cluster/infotainment). 

Included is an 8.0-Inch HD touchscreen display (rear - centre console).

The interior sees leatherette (standard) and vegan leather (‘Launch Series’) upholsteries in two (single-tone, dual-tone) colour options (Black - standard, Black-White - optional - MYR 5,000).

Fitted are electronic-powered (front - multi-way/lumbar/heated/vented, rear - backrest recline/heated/vented/40:20:40 split-flat-fold) Anti-Gravity seats.

Included are armrests (front - centre console, rear - centre seat fold-out), a panoramic glass roof (acoustic - tint protection - ultraviolet, infrared), and floor mats/puddle lights/sill plates (‘Launch Series’ emblem - ‘Launch Series’), 

Courtesy of its central-underfloor-mounted EV battery and borderline wide body, the five-seater offers generous cabin space, providing ample interior mobility for the occupants (front, rear).

Sufficient head-, shoulder-, and leg-room.

Practical storage spaces. E.g., centre console armrest/partitioned storages, side door/back seat pockets, and a glove box.

Mounted is a three-spoke-flat-bottom steering wheel, wrapped in leather (Black), detailed with contrast trims (Silver). 

Features are multi-function (media, vehicle settings), integrated signal switches (deleted - signal stalk), electric column adjustments (tilt, telescopic), and heating.

Drive is aided by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Provided are four cup holders (two - front, rear), and four bottle holders (two - front, rear - side doors).

Installed are one 12 V power socket (front), four USB-C ports (two-front, two-rear), and a dual-wireless charger (centre console).

Accessing its electric-powered (hands-free - sensor, remote/key fob, Tesla app, touchscreen display) tailgate, opens up to 2,138-Litres (rear seats folded) of total load capacity.

Provided is a front trunk (frunk) with up to 117-Litres of load capacity.

Weighing in at 1,921 KG (Model Y RWD) and 1,992 KG (Model Y Long Range AWD), the Model Y stands at 4,790 MM long, 2,129 MM wide, 1,624 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,891 MM.

Steadily-smooth and sportily-sleek, it parades Tesla’s ‘Cyber Design’ exterior with a borderline low-sitting and tapered waistline cabin.

Upgraded, the front-end sees sculpted-bonnet/-quarter panels, a middle-notched bumper (grille-less, lower-centre-vented), and a flowing roofline (glass roof).

Accentuations are body clad/trims (Black - bumper, fenders, side sills/vent insert, side mirror arms, side window surrounds), and ‘Tesla’ emblem (Chrome).

Seamlessly-solid and minimalistic, it continues Tesla’s ‘Cyber Design’ exterior, emphasised by a widened silhouette with neatly-cut contours.

Upgraded, the rear-end sees a coupe-esque roofline (glass roof), an upright tailgate, tailgate spoiler, wide quarter panels, and a covered bumper (diffuser).

Accentuations are body clad/trims (Black - bumper, fenders, side sills/diffuser, side window surrounds), ‘Tesla’ script (Chrome), and ‘Launch Series’ emblem (tailgate - ‘Launch Series’).

New, the ‘Cross-Car’ headlamps are framed in a full-width lightbar design, slim with pointed edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), automatic On/Off/high-beam, sequential turn signals and welcome lights.

The side mirrors (two-tone - Black-body-coloured) are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust), with sequential turn signals, automatic-dimming/heating, and blind spot indicators (Blind Spot Monitoring - BSM).

Fitted are ventilated (front, rear) disc brakes. Drive is aided by a regenerative braking system, and Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold.

New, standard fitment is a set of 19-Inch ‘Crossflow’ (single-tone - Black) rims, wrapped in 255/45 R19 (front, rear) tyres. 

Optional (MYR 10,000) is a set of 20-Inch ‘Helix 2.0’ (single-tone - Silver) rims, wrapped in 275/40 R20 (front, rear) tyres.

The Model Y features the following suits of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). 

Standard, they are Tesla Basic Autopilot (Level 2 autonomous driving system), Sentry Mode (360-degree camera, dashcam), Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, and Blind Spot Monitor (BSM). 

Other accompanying systems are Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control (TCS), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), and Hill-Descent Control (HDC).

Optional is Tesla Enhanced Autopilot (MYR 16,000), which includes Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Dumb Summon and Smart Summon (summon parked Tesla via Tesla app). 

Another optional add-on is Tesla Full Self-Driving Capability (MYR 32,000), which includes Basic Autopilot and Enhanced Autopilot systems, along with Traffic Light/Stop Sign Control and Autosteer On City Streets. 

Passive safety includes seven airbags (driver-passenger, driver-knee, front sides, front-rear curtains), seat belts (reminders, pre-tensioners, anchors), ISOFIX (top-tether - outer-rear-seats), parking sensors (front, rear), parking cameras (front, side, rear), door ajar warning, impact sensors, crash sensors, anti-theft (security alarm, immobiliser).

Equipped drive modes are Acceleration Mode (STANDARD, CHILL, SPORT), and Track Mode V3 (motor/suspension controls, powertrain cooling, Tesla Vehicle Dynamics Control - VDC).

Included are three interior modes (DOG, CAMP, SENTRY), altering the in-car ambience and providing extra safety.

Installed is a 15.4-Inch HD touchscreen central display (infotainment/instrument cluster). Included is an 8.0-Inch HD touchscreen display (rear - centre console).

The system supports camera views (live traffic feed), live navigation, live weather, media, Tesla Arcade, Tesla App, vehicle controls, voice command and in-car Wi-Fi.

Entertainment is channelled via a nine-speaker with an amplifier setup.

Embedded in the Model Y is a fully-electrified powertrain (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM). 

Variant-specific, nestled is a single-motor (Model Y RWD) setup (rear-axle-mounted) and a dual-motor (Model Y Long Range AWD) setup (front-/rear-axle-mounted).

Mated to the systems is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Gear changes are made via the infotainment setup (touch-based). Back-up physical buttons are provided (front roof).

Power is transmitted to the rear wheels (Model Y RWD) and to all four wheels (Model Y Long Range AWD), via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) setup and an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) setup.

0 to 100 KM/H acceleration is done in 5.9 seconds (Model Y RWD) and 4.3 seconds (Model Y Long Range AWD - Acceleration Boost). 

Top speed is 201 KM/H (Model Y RWD, Model Y Long Range AWD).

Variant Model Y RWD generates a total driving range of 466 KM (WLTP) on a single charge. Supported are AC charging (Type 2 - 11 KW) and DC charging (CCS2 - 175 KW).

Variant Model Y Long Range AWD generates a total driving range of 551 KM (WLTP) on a single charge. Supported are AC charging (Type 2 - 11 KW) and DC charging (CCS2 - 250 KW).

Innovatively, by positioning the battery low in the centre of the underfloor, it allows for a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a low centre of gravity.

Propping-up the chassis is a front-/rear-specific suspension setup. Front (double wishbones, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers, anti-roll bar - stabiliser link/bar), rear (multi-link, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers). 

Overall, it is spacious with firm handling and is suitable as a daily-driver. Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, the ride quality is satisfactory.

Upgraded, the interior insulates sounds fairly well, accounting for all the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects. 

The cabin is acoustically-designed to enhance the in-car ambience, blocking-out majority of the exterior noises.

Featured are e-motors/battery encapsulation (vibration reduction), acoustic glass roof and dual-pane windows (tint protection - ultraviolet, infrared).

The newly-upgraded Tesla Model Y is built with a futuristically- and sophisticatedly-sporty appeal, offering good looks, performance, space and practicality.
