XPENG G6

Long-awaited, the first model from the Chinese automaker, XPENG Inc., officially launched in Malaysia, the all-new and all-electric, XPENG G6.

Dubbed as an ‘Ultra Smart Coupe SUV’, the e-crossover underpins XPENG’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA 2.0).

Fully-imported (CBU - China), available via Bermaz Auto Berhad (BAuto - local distributor) are two variants (G6 580 Pro - MYR 165,820, G6 755 Pro - MYR 185,820).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover a manufacturer warranty (five years/120,000 KM) and a battery/motor warranty (eight years/160,000 KM).

Five exterior colours (Fiery Orange, Graphite Grey, Artic White, Midnight Black, Silver Frost). Two interior colours (Grey, Black).

The all-new G6 has a futuristically-clean-designed dashboard, linked to a high-rising and flatly-wide centre console (gear lever-deleted - dual wireless charger).

Decked in soft-/hard-touch panels (leatherette - top dash, centre console, door trims), it sees a dual-tone colour scheme (Black-Black, Grey-Black).

Centre-staged is the floating centre display (infotainment), flanked by the dash-integrated driver display (instrument cluster).

Filling-in the layout are corner/centre fitted air-conditioning vents, and accentuations are contrasting bezels (Silver - AC vents, steering wheel, centre console).

Inclusively, the design is clean and seamless with accessibilities purposefully-arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented). 

Part of a ‘Smart Cockpit’, installed is a 10.2-Inch high-resolution digital dashboard (instrument cluster/driver display).

The setup runs XPENG’s latest smart in-car operating system (Xmart OS 5.0), powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8155P chip.

Features are driving displays, and Intelligent Voice Assistant (‘Hey XPENG’, avatar, Smart Vehicle Control - XPENG mobile app).

Comfortably-plush, the interior is upholstered in leatherette, featuring two colour schemes (Grey, Black).

The front gets electric-powered (driver/passenger - six-way adjust, driver - four-way lumbar, memory, welcome mode, heating/ventilation) ergonomic seats.

The rear gets a manually-operated (backrest adjust, heating, 60:40 split-fold) ergonomic bench seat.

Included are armrests (front - centre console, rear - centre seat fold-out), headrests (front - heating/ventilation, rear - heating), a fabric headliner (Black), and a panoramic glass roof (oversize - thermal insulation, UV coating).

Courtesy of its Cell-Integrated-Body (CIB) build (XPENG’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture - SEPA 2.0), featured is a body-integrated battery pack, optimising the cabin design with added vertical space.

This provides the five-seater with sufficient cabin space, allowing the front and rear occupants to have ample interior mobility. Generous head-, shoulder, and leg-room.

Practical storage areas. E.g., centre console partitioned/caverned spaces, side door/seatback pockets, glove box.

Mounted is a two-spoke-flat-bottom steering wheel, wrapped in leatherette with a dual-tone (Grey-Black, Black-Black) colour scheme.

Features are multi-switches (Bluetooth, media, vehicle settings), column adjustments (tilt, telescopic), and heating.

Drive is aided by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Provided are four cup holders (two - front, rear) and four bottle holders (one - side doors).

Installed are four USB ports (two-front, two-rear), one 12 V socket (front), and two wireless chargers (50 W, air-cooling - centre console).

Included is a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L - 3.3 KW) function for charging of external appliances. 

Accessing its electric-powered (contactless - remote control/key fob, sensor, button) tailgate, opens up to 571-Litres (rear seats up) and 1,374-Litres (rear seats down) of load capacities.

Weighing in at 2,025 KG, the all-new G6 stands at 4,753 MM long, 1,920 MM wide, 1,650 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,890 MM.

Steadily-smooth and electrifyingly-sporty, its low-sitting-tapered-waistline exterior exudes a techno-fluid aesthetic with clean-cut and sleekly-refined contours.

A short-overhang, the ‘roboface’ front-end sees a smooth bonnet, rounded quarter panels, and an inward-curving-full-faced bumper (grille-less, lower central-vented).

Accentuations are slit-like bumper trim (Black - top-full-stretch, XPENG emblem - Chrome) and body claddings (bumper, fenders, side sills, side mirror arms - Black).

Curvy-sculpted and horizontally-lined, it continues the techno-fluid aesthetics with a seamlessly-jointed and widened silhouette.

A short-overhang, the rear-end sees a coupe roofline, a roof-edge spoiler, a rakishly-flowing rear window, roundly-muscular quarter panels and a neatly-cut bumper.

Accentuations are slit-like tailgate trim (thickened tail lamp walls (Black), XPENG script (middle tailgate - Chrome) and body claddings (bumper, fenders, side sills - Black).

Dual-housed (top - DRL, bottom - main), the ‘lightsaber’ headlamps are in a split design with the top slim and slit-like, and the bottom in two individual cubes. Installed are LED units.

Features are LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), automatic-sensing (On/Off/cornering), Intelligent High-Beam (IHB), height adjustment (manual), welcome light and sequential turn signals.

Slit-like and slim, the smoked-out tail lamps are framed with pointed wraparound edges and thickened wall surrounds. Installed are LED units. 

Features are welcome light and sequential turn signals. Paired to the set is a high-mounted brake light (spoiler-integrated).

The dual-tone (top - body-colour, bottom - Black) side mirrors are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust).

Features are automatic-dimming, heating, memory, blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Detection - BSD), and sequential turn signals.

Fitted are ventilated disc brakes (front, rear), incorporating an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system.

Sportily-designed, equipped is a set of 20-Inch star-spoke (dual-tone - Black-Silver) light-alloy rims, rubbered-up in 255/45 R20 Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres.

The all-new G6 features the XPENG’s XPILOT 2.5 (Nvidia Orin-X chip) suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). 

Under XPILOT Driving, grouped are Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop/Go, Lane Centric Control (LCC), Adaptive Turning Cruise (ATC), Active Lane Change (ALC), and Automatic Speed Limiter (ASL).

Under XPILOT Parking, grouped are Enhanced Auto Parking Assist (EAP 2.0 - XPENG mobile app), Auto Exit Parking Assist (AEP - XPENG mobile app), Parking Assist with 360-degree camera, Transparent Chassis, Straight Summon (XPENG mobile app), and Remote Parking Assist (RPA - XPENG mobile app).

Under XPILOT Safety, grouped are Driver State Monitoring (DSM), Forward Distance Monitoring (FDM), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Intelligent High Beam (IHB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Door Open Warning (DOW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assistance (LKA), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Available are three selectable drive modes (STANDARD, ECO, SPORT).

Embedded in the all-new G6 are variant-specific-tuning e-powertrains.

Variant G6 580 Pro nestles a rear-mounted electric motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM), generating 190 KW (255 HP) and 440 NM.

Variant G6 755 Pro harbours a rear-mounted electric motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM), generating 210 KW (282 HP) and 440 NM.

Mated to the setups is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Power is transmitted to the rear wheels, via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H is done in 6.6 seconds (G6 580 Pro) and 6.2 seconds (G6 755 Pro). Top speed is 200 KM/H (G6 580 Pro, G6 755 Pro).

Underpinned is XPENG’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA 2.0), featuring a Cell-Integrated-Body (CIB) build (body-integrated battery pack), with a high-voltage Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform (800 V).

Variant G6 580 Pro gets a Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack (66 KWH), enabling a total driving range of 435 KM (WLTP).

Variant G6 755 Pro gets a Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery pack (87.5 KWH), enabling a total driving range of 570 KM (WLTP).

AC charging (Type 2, 11 KW - G6 580 Pro/G6 755 Pro) takes 7.5 hours (G6 580 Pro) and 9.5 hours (G6 755 Pro) for a 5% to 100% State-of-Charge (SoC). 

DC charging (CCS2, 215 KW - G6 580 Pro/280 KW - G6 755 Pro) takes 20 minutes for a 10% to 80% State-of-Charge (SoC).

Propping-up the chassis is a double wishbone independent suspension (front) and a multi-link independent suspension (rear).

Ultimately, it is spacious with firm handling and is suitable as a daily driver. Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, the ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The build is acoustically designed to enhance the in-car ambience. 

Overall, the cabin is able to suppress unwanted noises well and make them barely noticeable, in most of the day-to-day driving environment.

The all-new XPENG G6 is built with a futuristically- and sophisticatedly-sporty appeal, offering style, performance, space and practicality.

A beautifully-sculpted silhouette, it is very well designed with the clean and seamless lines donating a powerful overall contour.

Quality of the equipment and materials installed inside, impresses with the upscale, mature design and restrained detailing.

All in all, the G6 e-crossover bargains more than just good looks, it also provides an energising driving pleasure with its fully-electrified drive.
