XPENG X9

A highly anticipated second model from the Chinese automaker, XPENG, officially launched in Malaysia, the all-new XPENG X9.

A Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the luxury MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) underpins XPENG’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA 2.0).

Fully imported (CBU - China), available via Bermaz Auto Berhad (BAuto - Bermaz XPENG) are three variants (Standard Range 2WD Pro - MYR 270,708, Long Range 2WD Pro - MYR 288,708, Long Range 2WD Pro Plus - MYR 300,708).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover a manufacturer warranty (five years/120,000 KM), a battery/motor warranty (eight years/160,000 KM) and free scheduled maintenance (five years/100,000 KM).

Optional accessory (AC wall charger with installation - single phase 7 KW/three phase 11 KW - MYR 4,300/MYR 5,000).

Three exterior colours (Nebula White, Crescent Silver, Dark Night Black). Two interior colours (Moon Shadow Brown, Starry Night Black).

The all-new X9 has a futuristically clean and tiered dashboard, linked to a high-rising-wide centre console (gear lever-deleted, dual wireless charger, rear section refrigerator).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, door panels), it sees two dual-tone colour schemes (Black-Moon Shadow Brown/-Starry Night Black) with contrast trims (Silver, wood veneer).

Filling-in the spaces are floating driver/central displays (instrument cluster/infotainment), elongated air-conditioning vents (Aluminium) and ambient lighting (multi-colour, rhythmic).

Inclusively, the design is clean and seamless with accessibilities ergonomically arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

Part of a ‘Smart Cockpit’, installed is a 10.25-Inch HD LCD digital dashboard (instrument cluster/driver display).

The setup runs XPENG’s latest smart in-car operating system (Xmart OS 5.0), powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip (SA8295P).

Features are driving displays and Intelligent Voice Assistant (‘Hey XPENG’, avatar, Smart Vehicle Control - XPENG mobile app).

The interior sees leatherette (Standard Range 2WD Pro, Long Range 2WD Pro) and Nappa leather (Long Range 2WD Pro Plus) upholsteries, in two single-tone (Moon Shadow Brown, Starry Night Black) colour schemes.

The first-row gets electronic-powered (driver/passenger - multi-way-adjust, multi-way-lumbar, massage, heating/ventilation, welcome/memory) ergonomic seats.

The second-row gets electronic-powered (multi-way-adjust, multi-way leg rest, massage, heating/ventilation, welcome/memory, One-Click-Zero-Gravity sitting posture - Long Range 2WD Pro Plus) Aviation (Standard Range 2WD Pro, Long Range 2WD Pro) and Zero Gravity (Long Range 2WD Pro Plus) seats (captain seats).

Courtesy of its Cell-Integrated-Body (CIB) build (XPENG’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture - SEPA 2.0), featured is a body-integrated battery pack, optimising the cabin design with added vertical space.

Mounted is a two-spoke-flat-bottom steering wheel, leatherette wrapped in two dual-tone (Black-Moon Shadow Brown/-Starry Night Black) colour schemes with contrast trims (Silver). 

Features are multi-switches (Bluetooth, Media, Voice Recognition, Vehicle settings), electric column adjustments (tilt, telescopic) and heating.

Drive is aided by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Practical storage areas. E.g., side door/seat back pockets, centre console partitioned/caverned/retractable/under-stowage spaces, glove box, refrigerator (electric open/close, cooling/heating) and hidden boot space (under-boot floor).

Provided are six cup holders (two - first-, second-, third-row), and six bottle holders (two - first-, second-, third-row).

Weighing in at 2,640 KG (Standard Range 2WD Pro) and 2,590 KG (Long Range 2WD Pro, Long Range 2WD Pro Plus), the all-new X9 measures at 5,293 MM in length, 1,988 MM in width, 1,785 MM in height and with a wheelbase spanning 3,160 MM.

Electrifyingly distinctive, its ‘Starship’ exterior parades XPENG’s techno-fluid aesthetics with symmetrically cut and sharply angular flowing surfaces.

A short-overhang, the ‘Robot Face’ front-end sees a smooth bonnet (XPENG emblem), slim quarter panels and an inward-warped bumper (‘Crystal Grille’ - Active Grille Shutter - AGS).

Accentuations, body trims (Black - bumper/grille linings, window surrounds, side mirror arms, lower side doors), body clad (body-colour - fenders, side sills) and XPENG emblem (Chrome).

Cleanly sharp and symmetrical, it continues the techno-fluid aesthetics with a seamlessly jointed and horizontally angular silhouette.

A short-overhang, the rear-end sees a coupe-esque roofline (floating roof), tapered quarter panels, an inward-warped tailgate (XPENG script, X9 emblem) and a neatly cut bumper.

Accentuations, body trims (Black - bumper lining, centre tailgate bar, window surrounds, lower side doors), body clad (body-colour - fenders, side sills) and XPENG/X9 script/emblem (Chrome).

Dual-housed (top - DRL, bottom - main), the headlamps are framed angularly inward-tilted with full-width light bar-style DRLs. Installed are LED units.

Features are Daytime Running Lights (DRL - LED), automatic-sensing (On/Off/cornering), Intelligent High-Beam (IHB), height adjustment (manual), welcome light and sequential turn signals (LED).

Slit-like and slim, the tail lamps are in a full-width lightbar design, symmetrically framed with pointed wraparound edges. Installed are LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome lights and sequential turn signals (LED). 

The dual-tone (top - body-colour, bottom - Black) side mirrors are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust).

Features are automatic-dimming, heating, memory, blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Detection - BSD), and sequential turn signals (LED).

Fitted are ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes, and the drive is aided by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system. 

Incorporated are regenerative braking and Bosch IPB Smart Brake System.

Equipped is a set of 20-Inch multi-spoke (dual-tone - Black-Silver) light-alloy rims, rubbered-up in 235/50 R20 (front, rear) Michelin e-Primacy tyres.

The all-new G6 features the XPENG’s XPILOT 2.5 (Nvidia Orin-X chip) suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). 

Under XPILOT Driving, grouped are SR Environment Simulation Display, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop/Go, Lane Centric Control (LCC), Adaptive Turning Cruise (ATC) and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (SAS).

Under XPILOT Parking, grouped are Enhanced Auto Parking Assist (EAP 2.0 - XPENG mobile app), Auto Exit Parking Assist (AEP - XPENG mobile app), Parking Assist with 360-degree camera and Transparent Chassis.

Included is a 21.4-Inch rear passenger entertainment screen (second-row roof-mounted - electric fold-out, remote control).

Entertainment is channelled via a XPENG XOPERA surround sound system (2,180 W, 23 speakers). 

Embedded in the all-new X9 is an e-powertrain setup (BEV).

Fused is a single-electric-motor setup (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM - front-mounted), generating 235 KW (315 HP) and 450 NM.

Merged to the setup is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Power is transmitted to the front wheels (Standard Range 2WD Pro, Long Range 2WD Pro, Long Range 2WD Pro Plus), via a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) system.

Incorporated is an Active Rear-Wheel Steering system.

0 to 100 KM/H acceleration is done in 7.7 seconds. Top speed is electronically capped at 200 KM/H.

Underpinned is XPENG’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA 2.0), featuring a Cell-Integrated-Body (CIB) build (body-integrated battery pack), with a high-voltage Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform (800 V).

Variant Standard Range 2WD Pro gets a Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery (84.5 KWH), enabling a total driving range of 500 KM (WLTP).

Variants Long Range 2WD Pro and Long Range 2WD Pro Plus get a Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery (101.5 KWH), enabling a total driving range of 590 KM (WLTP).

AC charging (Type 2, 11 KW) takes 9.5 hours (Standard Range 2WD Pro) and 11 hours (Long Range 2WD Pro, Long Range 2WD Pro Plus) for a 5% to 100% State-of-Charge (SoC). 

DC charging (CCS2, 283 KW - Standard Range 2WD Pro/317 KW - Long Range 2WD Pro, Long Range 2WD Pro Plus) takes 20 minutes for a 10% to 80% State-of-Charge (SoC).

Included is a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L - 3.3 KW) charging function, for powering of external appliances.

Ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time. The e-MPV delivers a connected steering feel, with linear and balanced weighing at all speeds. 

Overall, it is spacious and comfortable, and the ride quality is satisfactory. Safe and suitable for a daily driver.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The build is acoustically designed to enhance the in-car ambience.
