Up To 100 Charging Points For EVs Along PLUS Highways By 2024 – PLUS
PLUS Malaysia (PLUS) aims to have 100 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations installed at key locations along the highways it manages. In a recent article by The Edge, the managing director of the motorway concessionaire, Datuk Azman Ismail, disclosed this.
"We are working together with strategic partners, such as Tenaga [Nasional - TNB], to provide the facilities and services that EV users on our roadways will need. By 2024, we will help industry participants commission a total of 100 charging stations under the PLUS EV Charging Stations Roadmap, added Azman.
Around 29 EV charging stations have been installed, according to Azman, in rest and service areas (RSAs), as well as Caltex and Shell stations along PLUS motorways. According to the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), the nation now has about 600 public EV charging stations present.
Tenaga Nasional (TNB) first made the announcement that it would be working with PLUS on a number of environmental initiatives back in March of this year. These include installing EV fast chargers at specific, high-potential RSAs on the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 and the North-South Expressway (NSE) (LPT2).
The specifics of the DC fast charging network weren't made public at the time, but a released document showed that a total of eight fast charging stations—six on the NSE and two on the LPT2—would be installed across both roads and in six states.
In accordance with the parties' recently-signed memorandum of agreement, photovoltaic solar systems will also be installed on the roof of the Ayer Keroh R&R building (facing north) and Tapah R&R (Northbound), with total capacity of over 360 kWp (kilowatt peak).
