World Car Awards 2024 Winners Announced

Winners of the 2024 World Car Awards were announced this week at the New York International Auto Show 2024.
The 2024 edition of the annual World Car Awards culminated at the New York International Auto Show 2024 this week where all of its winners were announced. Amongst the key brands taking home top honours here were Kia, Hyundai, BMW, Volvo, as well as Toyota.
A jury of 100 distinguished international automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the winners by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their on-going professional work. The vote results were tabulated by KPMG.
Arguably the biggest winner here was Korean automaker Kia as the marque snatched two awards with its flagship EV9. Besides the title of ‘2024 World Electric Vehicle’, said flagship EV SUV also took the coveted ‘2024 World Car of the Year’ title as well.
For the latter category, the EV9 had beaten finalists like the Volvo EX30 and the BYD Seal. Said Korean flagship EV also beat the Volvo EV crossover mentioned the former category, which also saw the BMW i5/5 Series listed as a finalist.

Kia and Hyundai proved big winners this year, the former taking two awards including the coveted '2024 World Car of the Year' title whilst the latter was named '2024 World Performance Car' with the Ioniq 5 N.
Also taking top honours here is Kia’s sister brand Hyundai, which claimed the ‘2024 World Performance Car’ title with its highly acclaimed Ioniq 5 N. Hyundai’s manic and rapid performance EV crossover had beaten both the BMW XM and BMW M2 to garner this award.
Despite missing out on perhaps some of the more coveted titles here, both BMW and Volvo didn’t come away empty handed and claimed an award each.

Taking the tile of '2024 World Luxury Car' was the BMW i5/5 Series, whereas the Volvo EX30 was crowned '2024 World Urban Car'.
German marque BMW saw its i5/5 Series named ‘2024 World Luxury Car’, beating rivals Mercedes-Benz and both their latest W214-gen E-Class and EQE SUV – both listed as finalists in this category.
Volvo, on the other hand, saw its new EX30 EV crossover crowned as the ‘2024 World Urban Car’, outshining finalists like the Lexus LBX and BYD Dolphin in this particular category.

The latest-gen Toyota Prius also won the title of '2024 World Car Design of the Year'.
Not missing out here too was Japanese automaking giant Toyota as it took the ‘2024 World Car Design of the Year’ award through its latest fifth-gen Prius. In this category, said groundbreaking Toyota hybrid nameplate outshined other finalists like the Ford Bronco and the Ferrari Purosangue.
It is worth noting that all winning entries of the 2024 World Car Awards were all electrified, either partially or fully. With the exception of the Prius and i5/5 Series, the other key winning trend here were crossover SUVs.

Chinese EV-making giants BYD were named as finalists, but ultimately missed out on any wins with both its Seal and Dolphin offerings.
Notably too was the rise of Chinese EV-making BYD in this annual awards, and how it arguably just missed out on the coveted ‘2024 World Car of the Year’ title through its Seal EV saloon. The same can be said about its smaller Dolphin EV hatch, which was named as a ‘2024 World Urban Car’ finalist.
