Built for adventure and exploration of the rugged outdoors, Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia presents its revitalized iconic four-wheeler, the new Land Rover Defender 110.

Being the most capable and durable 4x4 vehicle in the world, the new Land Rover Defender is now fully equipped with the latest innovations and vast improvements.

It combines off-road ability with toughness to create the ultimate dual-purpose vehicle through delivery of practical technology and a functional design.

“By incorporating the latest innovations, the Defender is ideal not only for 4x4 adventures but also for daily city driving. The upgrades reflect the times and the changing needs of the current generation of drivers,” remarked Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia’s managing director, Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz.

Land Rover is offering two powertrain options, the 2.0L Ingenium 4-cylinder Electronic Control, Direct-injection petrol mill and the 3.0L MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) 6-cylinder petrol mill.

First off, the high performance 2.0L Ingenium powertrain produces a maximum power of 300 PS (296 hp) at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 400 Nm at 1,500 to 4,500 rpm.

Second, the more efficient 3.0L MHEV powertrain features a conventional twin-scroll turbocharger and an advanced 48-volt e-supercharger.

Enabling it to surge with 400 PS (395 hp) of maximum power and 550 Nm of maximum torque, while setting a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.1 seconds.

On top of that, its chassis and new D7x body architecture is built based on a lightweight aluminium monocoque construction and have been engineered to withstand Land Rover’s Extreme Event Test.

Said procedure endures the Defender 110 through repeated and sustained impacts, above and beyond the normal standard for SUV and passenger cars.

As such, its strong body architecture allows for towing or carrying of heavy loads with a roof rack and tow bar systems, which have a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 kg.

Plus, the Defender 110’s ultra-strong body is ready for overland adventures, with a maximum static roof load of 300 kg.

Moreover, its new body architecture also allows for ground clearance of up to 291 mm and with a wheelbase of 3,022 mm, the Defender 110 offers a breakover angle of 28 degrees.

Notably, its max wading depth of 900 mm is supported by a new wade programme in the ‘Terrain Response’ system, which ensures drivers can wade through deep water with complete confidence.

Apart from that, its Adaptive Dynamics which is available with Electronic Air Suspension, allows customers to fine-tune or personalise the driving characteristics.

Interestingly, the system’s adaptive dampers monitor body movements up to 500 times per second and respond almost instantaneously to optimise control and comfort.

Additionally, its air suspension aids the 4x4’s on-road handling and supports its all-terrain capability, providing an off-road ride height lift of 75 mm and supreme ride comfort across all surfaces.

The extra height lift means the air system can raise the body by a maximum of 145 mm when needed, while the ‘Elegant Arrival’ function automatically lowers the body by 40 mm to aid access.

Furthermore, a 3D Surround Camera with new 3D exterior perspectives is also fitted alongside a 360-degree overhead view, which makes manoeuvring of the Defender 110 a lot easier.

Meanwhile, the off-road views that include the innovative ClearSight Ground View, provide drivers with confidence when scaling various terrains.

Besides that, Land Rover’s innovative ClearSight interior rear-view mirror is another great feature of the Defender.

It ensures an unobstructed view even if there are tall people sitting in the back seat or cargo area piled high with camping equipment, furniture, or moving boxes.

By which, it uses a rear-mounted camera to display a wide-angle camera view of what’s behind the Defender 110 direct to the rear-view mirror.

Exterior-wise, the new Defender portrays a distinctive silhouette that is instantly recognisable, with minimal front and rear overhangs, which provide excellent approach and departure angles.

Featuring familiar Defender trademarks, the 4x4 exudes a purposeful upright stance, Alpine roof lights, a chamfered roofline, side-hinged rear tailgate and an externally mounted spare wheel.

Transitioning inside, its highly functional interior design is marked out by exposed structural elements and 21st century technologies.

For the infotainment, it features a state-of-the-art new Pivi Pro system that is coupled with the British-based Meridian Sound System.

Other convenient features packaged with the new Defender include a Head-up Display and the aforementioned ClearSight Interior Rear-View Mirror.

Also equipped is a Click and Go System integrated base unit for the integration of additional accessories for the convenience of second row passengers to hold their bags, laptops or jackets.

Moving to the rear, its load space delivers customary Defender practicality with the 110 providing up to 1,075-litres when using the full height.

Especially with the back seats folded, it has a max load volume of up to 2,380-litres and a max payload of up to 900 kg.

Seating arrangements, the Defender 110 has the option of five or five-plus-two seating, which makes it versatile as a family car or for loading bulky items needed for an adventure.

Pricing-wise, the 2.0L trim starts at RM 798,800, while the 3.0L MHEV at RM 998,800. These prices are inclusive of a 50 percent Penjana Sales Tax waiver, excluding road tax, registration and insurance.

Every new purchase of a Land Rover vehicle comes with the Land Rover Care programme i.e., a five-year warranty, a five-year free service and a three-year roadside assistance.

All things considered, in celebration of Sime Darby and Land Rover’s 40th Anniversary, a Land Rover Heritage Watch worth RM 2,288 will be given with every Defender registered in 2021.
