- E-Scooter Banned in Dataran Merdeka, Dangerous for Public
As announced, electric scooters are strictly not allowed to be ridden especially at Dataran Merdeka.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) also mentioned that that plan is part of government’s order to banned micromobility vehicles on public roads including not only e-scooters but also hoverboards and skateboards.
According to the ministry, micromobility vehicles is consist of those powered by electricity, an internal combustion engine or human power combined with any of the previously mentioned two, with a maximum speed of 50 km/h.
Previously, transport minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong mentioned that these micromobility vehicles are still applicable to ride but not only public roads where there are other vehicles which could be risky.
Referring to a Bernama report, DBKL had seized two e-scooters that had been rented to the public for the unauthorised activity.
“No permission has been given by DBKL for this activity. The enforcement personnel have also lodged a police report against the operator for obstructing the duties of civil servants, while the seized electric scooters were taken to the DBKL Seizure Store in Jalan Lombong, Cheras,” the council stated.
