Bentley’s 20-Year Run in China Rejoiced With London Mused Mulliner Commissions
20th anniversary of the British marque’s presence in China rejoiced with new Mulliner Bentleys, spanning four families of 20 examples.
Designed with unique characters, matched by artisanal Mulliner hand craftsmanship, each of the four special models has been inspired by different famous locations in London.
The Continental GT, Continental GTC, Flying Spur and Bentayga represent the four families, each with distinct monikers, The Guard, The Carnaby, The Pall Mall and The Savile Row.
All of the 20 Bentleys in each family are due to be individually handcrafted by Mulliner, and are destined for Chinese clients.
The Guard
First Bentley in the collection, The Guard, inspired by the famous Royal Guards who protect the Royal Household.
It comes in a St James Red pearlescent paint job with a Beluga roof, mimicking the red tunic and 18-inch black bearskin hats worn by the Guards.
Then, fitted is a carbon fibre Styling Specification body kit, featuring a front splitter, side sill extensions, rear diffuser and boot lid spoiler also in Beluga, but with a Moonbeam pinstripe.
Accentuating the bodywork is a set of 21-inch ten-spoke wheels, painted black with a bright machined finish.
Other than that, subtle ‘The Guard’ exterior badges in black, denoting the car as one of 20, adorn the front wings.
Inside the cabin, a bespoke three-tone colour split in Linen, Beluga and Hotspur is completed by Beluga lambswool rugs.
Finished in Piano Hotspur over Piano Black, the veneers match the leather, where the latter gets contrasting stitching and piping for added colour.
Elsewhere, gold tunic buttons of the Guards’ uniform are reflected by Gold Organ Stops, which are in place to control the cabin heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.
While the speakers of the Bang & Olufsen setup are finished in black and gold, the headrest embroidery, passenger fascia’s overlay and bespoke tread plates carry ‘The Guard’ graphics.
The Carnaby
Second representation is the Convertible Bentley. The Carnaby, like its name suggests, is based on Carnaby Street in London’s Soho district.
Equally vibrant like the lively and bright colours of Carnaby Street, it comes in four different colours. Radium, Jetstream II, Orange Flame and Onyx.
Sportily, it features 22-inch black-painted finished with solid Arctica white accent wheels, which is matched by an Arctica pinstripe to the Styling Specification body kit.
Similar to the previous representation, it also has dedicated ‘The Carnaby’ badging fitted to the front wings.
Transitioning inside, bespoke Radium hide accents and matching contrast stitching in both Radium and Silver bring a splash of vibrancy through the Beluga leather.
Whereas, a colourful diamond motif set into the passenger fascia, represents the four colours in the family.
Perfecting the layout, the centre console features new dark tint diamond brushed aluminium, where the embroidery uses the same diamond motif as the fascia.
The Pall Mall
The Pall Mall Flying Spur is a 2022 homage to the official State Limousine of Her Majesty The Queen of England.
Elegantly, it features a bespoke two-toned Beluga over Claret paint job, complete with matching 22-inch ten-spoke wheels in a claret-painted and bright-machined finish.
On top of that, an exterior bright chrome work and a ‘The Pall Mall’ badge to the C-pillar complete the regal exterior.
Interior-wise, the four-seater cabin comes in a bespoke and unique front-to-rear colour split that separates the rear seats from the front.
Beautifully, the split flows from Imperial Blue in the front to the bespoke hide colour of Baroda Blue, just like in the State Limousine, for the rear seats.
A full length centre console separates the two rear seats, at which the veneer uses one wood species with two different finishes.
Said finishes of Open Pore Burr Walnut over High Gloss Burr Walnut, forms a beautiful combination of pattern and texture.
Also finished in Burr Walnut are the rear doors, while the backs of the front seats house picnic tables finished in Piano Baroda Blue.
Finishing touches to the upholstery include bespoke micro-piping in Pale Gold that has contrasting seat piping in Imperial Blue.
A bespoke crown motif is embroidered to the seats, and the rear seats include loose leather-trimmed cushions.
That’s not all, the crown motif is also repeated as a veneer overlay in Gold to the centre rear console, the passenger fascia and the rear door panels.
The Savile Row
Fourth Bentley in the collection is The Savile Row, a Bentayga that applies a design that pays respect to the craftspeople of Savile Row.
Altered with a modern twist, it features a Clean Cumbrian Green bodywork paired with 22-inch ten-spoke wheels, also in Cumbrian Green but with a bright machined finish.
Continuing the colour theme, the four seater cabin with rear centre console uses a bespoke colour split in Cumbrian Green and Portland hides, with selected areas of contrast stitching.
Next, Mulliner’s ‘Serenity’ seat quilting to the seats, doors and backboard is complemented by bespoke and exclusive High Gloss Burr Elm veneer.
Of which can be seen on the fascias, centre consoles and door waist-rails. Interestingly, it is the first time this veneer has been used in a modern Bentley.
Lastly, a suit and bow tie embroidery is stitched to the headrests, along with ‘The Savile Row’ markings on the passenger fascia’s overlay, tread plates, and to the exterior’s D pillar.
Production
Collectively, this special London Commission collection consists of 80 V8-powered Bentleys, and each will be sold exclusively in China.
With the first examples due to make their global debut in said market over the coming months, the customer demands are already at a high.
