One-off Porsche 911 Sally Special unveiled, brings beloved cartoon character to life
Porsche and Pixar Animation Studios teamed up and unveiled a one-off Porsche sportscar inspired by one the characters from the latter’s famed ‘Cars’ animation franchise – Sally Carrera.
Christened as the Porsche 911 Sally Special, it brings to life the famed character voiced by Bonnie Hunt. However, unlike the cartoon, which is loosely based on the 996-generation Porsche 911 Carrera, this new and one-of-a-kind Sally Special underpins a more recent example – a 992-gen 911 Carrera GTS.
Together with several staff from Pixar, the Sally Special was specially customised by the German sportscar brand’s Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur customsation arm based in Zuffenhausen. The end result, of course, speaks for itself.
Highlights include the new ‘Sally Blue Metallic’ custom colour inspired by said cartoon character, which also extends to the lower fascia in the front and rear in lieu of the typical black motif. There’s also ‘Cars’ badging on the B-pillars and embossed on the door panels, a plaque on the dash signalling this special’s status as a one-off, as well as custom ‘Cars’ tire valve caps.
Notably, the Sally Special also rolls on a larger version of the five-spoke, fan-blade style wheels as seen on the 996-generation 911 Carrera, and it will offer its lucky new owner with two sets of which – one acting as a spare. These, adapted to the current 992-gen 911’s 20/21-inch (front/rear) sizing, are also exclusive to the Sally Special, so don’t expect to see these in Porsche’s parts catalogue anytime soon.
Other key details include the replication of Sally Carrera’s ‘pinstriping tattoo’ under the rear active-aero spoiler deck lid, as well as the renaming of the on-board ‘Sport Mode’ to ‘Kachow! Mode’ – a reference to the signature tagline of Car’s lead character Lightning McQueen, who is also Sally Carrera’s love interest in the animation.
Aside from these customisation, the Sally Special retain the business end of the 992-gen 911 Carrera GTS it underpins, by which we mean the signature rear-mounted 3.0-litre flat-six turbo heart and 7-speed manual transmission, with the former rated at 473 hp and 569 Nm. In other words, this rather whimsical special inspired by a cartoon character still remains serious as a ‘driving purist’s special’ entailed by the GTS badge.
Furthermore, the lucky bidder purchasing the 911 Sally Special will also get a matching custom Porsche Design watch that sports the same Chalk and Speed Blue motif as seen in this one-off’s interior too.
The Porsche 911 Sally Special will be auctioned off at the RM Sotheby’s auction held during the Monterey Car Week event later this month. Proceed from its sale will be split between two charities – Girls Inc. and United States for UNHCR.
