- 2023 Toyota Corolla equipped with latest hybrid system
Back in 2018, Toyota took over the automotive market by introducing the 12th generation Corolla with three different variants – Corolla, Corolla Touring and Corolla Sport.
This time around, the Japanese juggernaut returned with a 2023 Toyota Corolla tanked with a revised and robust electrified powertrain on top of a wider infotainment screen.
Under the hood, the latest Corolla augmented with a 1.8 litre four-cylinder engine Atkinson-cycle 2ZR-FXE that churns out 97 hp and 142 Nm of torque along with an upgraded 1VM electric motor rated at 94 hp and 185 Nm.
Meanwhile, the 2.0-litre models receive 168 hp and 202 Nm, with the only transmission pairing being a Direct Shift-CVT.
In terms of pricing, the Corolla carries a price tag approximately between RM64 K to RM96 K (2 to 3 million ¥). Meanwhile Corolla Sport starts its price from RM 70 K to RM 93 K (2 and 3 million ¥) on top of having the top notch Corolla Touring which costs between RM66 K to RM98 K ( 2 and 3 million ¥)
The latest Corolla is painted with a new modified headlights and grille which was introduced in its home market recently. At front, the compact car foregoes Toyota’s emblem in favour of a large "C".
Although, the tailgate retains the corporate logo with blue accents denoting the electrified powertrain on both the front and rear.
The Corolla Sport, however, adopts similar design as debuted in the UK or US which is surrounded with more expressive front badge and fog lamp including an arrow-themed insert for its lower intake.
Except for some new trim pieces that are fitted depending on the grade, the rears of all three models looks nearly identical than before.
Moving inside, a new ‘T-Connect’ infotainment offers an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the base models despite the latest 10.5-inch display with connected satellite navigation also available, as well as Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
More to that, the instrument cluster appears to have also been upgraded to a fully HD digital screen.
With the model year change, Toyota offers an expanded range of safety features which includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and Proactive Driving Assist that helps the driver avoid getting too close to pedestrians, bicycles, and parked vehicles by automatically steering and applying the brakes.
2023 Toyota Corolla has Connected Services enabled through an in-built data communication module, bringing automatic collision notification, SOS emergency call, and stolen vehicle tracking which we believe available only for the Japan market.
