Audi R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD run-out special marks supercar’s end

The mighty four-ringed marque from Ingolstadt marks the ends of an era for its flagship R8 supercar following the introduction of its final, limited-run special. Christened as the Audi R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD, just 333 units will be built, marking the end of its lineage.

As previously reported, Audi confirmed that the successor to the R8 will take the form of a reinvented all-electric e-tron model next time around. Through this special, Audi is taking its last chance to have some fun with its signature naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 howler that it shares with its Italian cousin the Lamborghini Huracan.

A follow-up from the last GT-badged special edition released in 2010, the new R8 GT offers no less than 620 PS (611 HP) and 565 NM. Managed by a newly developed 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, drive goes to the rear wheels exclusively (hence the ‘RWD’ naming) to grant 0-100 KMH in just 3.4 seconds before maxing out at 320 KMH.

Enhancing performance further, engineers from House Ingolstadt shaved off 20 KG in this run-out special over the standard R8 V10 RWD it underpins. Weighing in at 1,570 KG, much of its weight-loss stems from the adoption of things like 20-inch forged wheels, ceramic brakes, as well as carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) stabiliser bar at the front axle.

Apart from the aforementioned carbon brakes, added agility and control comes from the improved downforce generated by the wind tunnel-tuned carbon fibre aerokit primed, grippy Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres, as well as the ability to ability to adjust torque channeled to the rear axle via seven selectable levels.

Visual differences continue through this special’s adoption of blacked-out Four Rings emblem and “R8 GT” tailgate badge, as well as the special ‘Suzuka Gray’ paint it wears as a nod to the original R8 GT. Alternatively, buyers can also opt to dress the R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD in Daytona Gray or Tango Red metallic colours too.

On board, the cabin adopts a black motif with red accents inspired by the 2010 R8 GT, and it features a numbered plaque placed below the gear lever. Also unique here are the carbon fibre bucket seats primed.

As mentioned, just 333 examples of the Audi R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD will be made, each reportedly commanding a starting price tag of €225,000 (approx. RM1.038 million+) in Germany. Though Audi did offer the first R8 GT in open-top Spyder form as well, this latest iteration comes exclusively as a coupe only.
