- New Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO Race Car Unveiled
Toyota’s Gazoo Racing (GR) performance arm has updated its GT4-spec GR Supra race car for the 2023 season, dubbed as Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO, the new 2023-spec race machine is set to continue racking up more race track glory as its predecessor did with over 50 race wins plus 11 domestic and international championships.
This new and updated GR Supra GT4 EVO sports various mechanical improvements, particularly with its chassis and handling package. Brand-new KW suspension as well as updated anti-roll bar help in keeping the GT4 stable when tackling fast corners. Matching that are the improved and redesigned braking hardware paired with new ABS settings dialled in.
The improved halting abilities are indeed warranted given that the 3.0-litre straight 6-cyl twin-turbo mill has been optimised further with a better torque curve and increased horsepower. An improved cooling system ensures that this straight-six powertrain maintains its peak performance, even under immense heat.
Additional features such as optional hydration system for drivers, a rear-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, suspension travel sensors as well as a homologated endurance equipment package are also made available in the 2023-spec update.
The new GR Supra GT4 EVO is poised to kick-start the 2023 racing season at the 24 Hours of Daytona, happening January next year. This improved race-winning machine can be yours for about €186,000 (RM875,407) sans taxes, customs and logistics charges.
Notably, existing GR Supra GT4 owners can access these upgrades too as they are sold separately by Toyota GR. In other words, the older GR Supra GT4 can indeed be updated with these parts to match the new GT4 EVO’s specs.
With this race-built GR Supra receiving an update, it is only fair to ask whether we’ll ever get another upgrade for its road-legal twin. Recent reports of Toyota possibly discontinuing its GR models, as well as rumours on an electrified GR model coming in a few years’ time, the chances of seeing another upgrade for the GR Supra remains to be seen still…
