- ''No Compromise for Vehicle Modifications on GE15'' – JPJ

Director General of JPJ Zailani Hashim
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) announces there will be no compromise on any political party that modifies vehicles for the purpose of campaigning in conjunction with the 15th general election (GE15) that just around the corner.
According to Director General of JPJ Zailani Hashim, if a vehicle is found to not adhere to the specifications established by the Land Public Service Agency as a commercial vehicle, misuse of permits and vehicle modifications may be brought against it under the Land Public Transport Act (Act 715) of 2015.
"There is no major license for any party to modify their vehicles this GE season," he said at a press conference after surveying the Integrated Road Safety Advocacy Op at the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza, last night.
He also said JPJ expected an increase in traffic flow ahead of polling day on Nov 19 and called on road users to always obey road rules.
Meanwhile, Zailani informed that for the period from January to September 2022, there were 402,626 road accident cases recorded involving 4,379 deaths compared to 255,532 road accident cases with 3,324 deaths for the same period in 2021.
"Comparing the data of 2021 and 2022 shows that there is an increase in road accidents which is 147,094 cases. It is because last year the country was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and there were not many vehicles on the road," he added.
The Election Commission (SPR) will be set on November 19 as the voting date for GE15, candidate nomination on November 5 and early voting on November 15.
