Tesla's Full Self-Driving Beta Now Available To All In N. America - Elon Musk
Elon Musk announced early Thursday that Tesla Inc's Full Self-Driving Beta software is now available to everyone in North America, as the company awaits regulatory approval for its cars to be driven without human supervision.
"Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta is now available to anyone in North America who requests it from the car screen, assuming you have bought this option," Musk tweeted.
Musk stated last month that Tesla's advanced driving assistance software will not be approved by regulators until 2022.
Musk intends to upgrade Full Self Driving (FSD) in 2023 to demonstrate to regulators that the system is far safer than the typical human driver.
The $15,000 FSD software add-on allows the Silicon Valley automaker's vehicles to change lanes and park autonomously. This is in addition to the company's regular "Autopilot" technology, which allows automobiles to steer, accelerate, and brake within their lanes without driver intervention.
Tesla, which has been chastised for testing incomplete technology on public roads, is also being investigated by the US Department of Justice on promises that its electric vehicles can drive itself, according to Reuters in October.
