Acura Integra Type-S Expected To See Production In 2024 With Civic Type-R's Drivetrain

Although the Integra brand name has been kept alive via its representation in a more subtle sedan form launched recently for the American market, most will always remember what the name Integra actually meant and the excitement it invokes. Gone are the two-door coupe styling in favour of a more practical four-door sedan.

The new 2023 Integra since launch has invited nothing but criticism. It just looks too plain and boring to have succeeded the Integra brand. However, things are looking different now with the announcement of the reworked upcoming Integra Type-S in 2024 as reported by Car and Driver.

The development for the Integra Type-S is taking place in Japan, hence the American media were flown there to experience it. From what is understood the Integra Type-S will share a similar power plant and transmission used in the new Civic Type-R. This is made easier with both models sharing the same platform to begin with.

Chassis for the Integra Type-S will be beefed up and there are rumours that it might get a tad more power then its Civic cousin which pushes 315HP with 422Nm torque from its 2.0-litre engine.

Based on a brief test drive by the guys at Car and Driver, they reported that the Integra Type-S has been tweaked to improve the Integra’s dynamics, which were already lively. The steering now is heavier while remaining responsive and precise, and the wider tires lend a planted feel.

The Integra Type-S would come fitted with 19-inch 265-series Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires which aids in improving overall grip driving feel while helping sharpen turn-in and steering feel too. The car similar to the Civic Type-R is rev-happy and pulls hard leaving behind the now popular pops and crackling exhaust notes.

As for the overall improvement on the looks, what can we say? Yes it does look a lot nicer and racier than the regular variant. Although the prototype vehicle was wrapped in camo, there is little left to imagine as everything details were actually visible. The most significant difference would for surely be the wider stance made possible by flared out fenders. We just have to wait and see if any further cosmetic changes will be made to the production version, hoping a rear spoiler would make its way in too. Fingers crossed.
