- McLaren Will Team Up With Lockheed Martin Skunk Works
British supercar marque McLaren is set to enter a collaborative partnership the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works division. Together, they’re set on designing ‘futuristic’ supercars.
Renowned as one of the planet’s most revered military aviation firms around, the Skunk Works division of Lockheed Martin have churned out some of the most advanced combat hardware ever seen in warfare. Highlights include the F-117 Nighthawk, F22 Raptor and F35 Lightning stealth fighters, amongst many.
More recently, the famed division also worked with the producers of Top Gun: Maverick where it created the fictional ‘Darkstar’ hypersonic aircraft featured in said blockbuster film starring Tom Cruise.
Back to their collaboration with McLaren, this effort seek to transfer Lockheed’s systems over to the world of cars, because its “pioneering software sets the parameters for high-speed systems more accurately and swiftly than traditional design methods”.
“We hope this is the start of a longer and deeper collaboration that will benefit our customers in the long-term,” adds Darren Goddard, McLaren’s CTO.
To celebrate the partnership, both companies got together for a photo-op at the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works headquarters in California. Stars of this shoot were, of course, the McLaren Artura plug-in hybrid supercar, as well as a full-sized model of said Lockheed division’s aforementioned ‘Darkstar’ fictional craft.
Simply put, the excitement surrounding McLaren’s upcoming design concepts stemming from this collaboration will be met with high excitement indeed…
