Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Races into Malaysia – From RM1.55 Million!

Apart from opening its latest and first ever 4S centre in the country and region this week, Porsche Malaysia (Sime Darby Auto Performance – SDAP) also saw its local line up grow with the addition of the new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS model. The track-focused supercar based off the marque’s 718 Cayman is now available to local prospects, and here’s what it packs.

Sitting as the flagship performance variant of the 718 Cayman/Boxster range, the new GT4 RS continues in the footsteps of its predecessors by retaining the midship performance formula featuring the Stuttgart-based marque’s famed naturally aspirated flat-six mill lifted from the 992-gen 911 GT3. This 4.0-litre mill delivers a manic 493 HP and 450 NM, plus the ability to rev as high as 9,000 RPM.

Drive is transmitted to the rear wheels exclusively via Porsche’s signature 7-speed PDK automatic transmission, thus allowing 0-100 KM/H despatched in a remarkable 3.4 seconds whilst enroute towards a claimed V-Max of 315 KM/H.

In spite of sharing the same powertrain, what sets the 718 Cayman GT4 RS apart from the 992 GT3 is the former’s mid-ship layout, which promises even greater balance and agility. Part of the updates in this latest-generation version include a pair of carbon fibre air intakes positioned where the rear quarter windows are.

Being a track-focused car, the GT4 RS boasts minimal sound dampening materials lining its cabin, so you can really hear the flat-six boxer screams up to 9,000 RPM once you floor it. The other advantage of which is, of course, weight-savings. Altogether, the performance diet the GT4 RS underwent sees it tip the scales at just 1,415 KG, or 35 KG less than the ‘regular’ GT4 variant slotted below it.

Also key to the GT4 RS’ package are the race-engineered aerodynamics primed. Mostly made from carbon fibre, it includes a front splitter and vented hood that channels air best for both cooling and downforce. At the rear sits a massive swan-neck style rear wing that provides much of the car’s downforce, matched with a carbon fibre rear diffuser assembly.

Thanks to all the aero upgrades mentioned, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS now generates 25% more downforce than the standard GT4. Also primed exclusively in the GT4 RS are a set of 20-inch wheels – available in either aluminium or magnesium – wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres that promise unrivalled racecar-like grip levels.

As a performance car, the GT4 RS’ cabin is best-described as ‘Spartan’ as most of the lush materials and comfort amenities are stripped, thus offering further weight-savings. Leather and metal trimmings are being swapped for Alcantara and carbon fibre, while the back seats are deleted in favour of a much-needed roll cage and bracing. Its carbon-fibre race buckets truly complete the whole GT track car aesthetics in this road-legal trackday beast.

Keen to have this as your next trackday toy? Well, get ready as the asking price is, predictably, steep…

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is tagged with a base price of RM1.55 million sans options. Viewing and orders can be done now through SDAP’s four main Porsche Centres located in Ara Damansara, Sungai Besi, Penang, as well as the newly-opened Porsche Centre Johor Bahru.
