Mattel is commemorating the 70th anniversary of its Matchbox brand with a new and limited-edition set of die-cast vehicles built from recycled zinc. In keeping with this, the company's objective is to produce all toys and packaging entirely out of recycled or bio-based plastics by 2030.

The commemorative series released for the occasion recently showcases legendary cars from all over the world, and spans across seven decades. Each also sport distinctive platinum embellishments, and MAtchbox is set to offer the set in seven different assortments.

According to Matchbox, the brand believes that combining sustainable production methods and other initiatives will help encourage the next generation of children and collectors to play their role in promoting sustainability. Moreover, the brand will continue to integrate electric vehicles into its line-up of scale-model vehicles as well.

Though a detailed vehicle list was not provided, we can see an assortment of different models included. Highlights include icons like the Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911, modern EVS like the GMC Hummer EV and Mazda MX-30, as well as other classics like the D-Type and Ford Mustang Convertible. Other modern vehicles set to be featured include the Nissan GT-R, Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6, and the Ford F-150 Lightning.

With prices starting from approximately RM11 (£2.30) for a single die-cast vehicle, the special edition Matchbox toys will be available throughout this year.

Senior VP of Global Head of Vehicles at Mattel, Roberto Stanichi, said "We are so excited to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Matchbox and the trusted legacy this brand has imprinted on kids and collectors all over the world.

"We look forward to continuing to redefine the die-cast category as we move towards a more sustainable future’’ he added.
