New Radical SR10 XXR Is A Trackday Warrior’s Dream

What you see here folks is effectively a racecar for the road in its truest sense. Called the Radical SR10 XXR, it was just revealed earlier this week and, aptly, this is built for avid trackday warriors indeed.

Essentially, this is an uprated version of Radical’s existing SR10 model, with the XXR upgrade pack adding a number of new performance-enhancing bits plus revised aerodynamics. The latter is evident with the restyled front end featuring new intake louvres aimed at reducing understeer and improved cooling, followed by an LMP-styled central fin at the back.

At the rear, the XXR package also adds a new splitter and diffuser, with the option for these to be made from carbon fibre for further weight savings. Other key lightweight bits include an optional pre-preg dashboard, as well as centre-lock cast aluminium wheels measuring 15-inches up front and 16-inches at the rear.

Eye-catching here is the Formula 1-style ‘halo’ safety structure which, though ungainly in looks, offers heightened head protection for drivers – or racers, if you will – and passengers seated in the cockpit should a crash occur. Thankfully, it’s also an optional item, meaning prospects favouring style can do without it if they wished to.

Underneath, the SR10 XXR sees Radical tweaking the mid-mounted Ford-sourced 2.3-litre 4-cyl turbo mill further. It now boasts a custom Garrett turbocharger, forged pistons and connecting rods, a bespoke dry-sump system, ECU mapping by Life Racing, as well as a high-flow exhaust system. The end result sees this mill serving up 425 HP and 515 NM.

While it may not sound like much, just remember that the Radical SR10 XXR weighs just 725 KG. This lightness plus a race-derived 6-speed sequential transmission supplied by Hewland present in the mix should see this road-legal track car command serious speeds – Radical quotes 0-60 MPH (96 KM/H) in just 2.4 seconds in fact.

On the handling front, the SR10 XXR’s chassis now benefits with new fully adjustable Nik-link suspension with Intrax triple-adjustable dampers, the latter with revised cast aluminium uprights for greater durability. These ought to keep the SR10 XXR agile and nimble, even when subjected with up to 2.5 G of lateral forces.

As for the brakes, massive 315 MM rotors grabbed by quad-piston calipers each ensure nearly-unrivalled halting abilities for the SR 10 XXR as well.

Keen on this race-ready track machine for your trackday jaunts? Radical is already accepting orders now before production starts in spring, though prices remain undisclosed at time of writing. As for existing SR10 owners, much of these new bits can be acquired through the XXR Evolution Pack that Radical has readied too.
