Geely Motorsport Unveils Next-Gen Lynk & Co 03 TCR Touring Car
Geely Group Motorsport is the motorsporting arm for giant Chinese automotive conglomerate, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. The firm has many participations in major international motorsport events like the FIA Touring Car World Cup (WTCR) under the Lynk & Co CYAN Racing, driving the Lynk & Co 03 TCR.
Initially founded in 2018, Geely Motorsport is celebrating its fifth anniversary by unveiling the next-gen Lynk & Co 03 TCR (Tour Car Racing), set to compete in the upcoming 2023 TCR World Tour.
This next-gen 2023 Lynk & Co 03 TCR is based on the latest 2022 generation of the road-going Lynk & Co 03 sedan, who made its debut in Sept last year. It features a slew of front and rear designs in order to adapt the new hybrid system that is part of the new regulations for the 2024 edition of the TCR competitions around the globe.
Aside from that, the new-gen car also meets the FIA’s latest safety standards, featuring a new crash structure and roll cage, plus an emergency exit hatch on the car’s roof. In spite of these new additions, the car still managed to weigh below 1,300 KG, even after factoring in the driver’s weight.
Powering this touring car is a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged mill developed in-house by Geely Motorsport, capable of delivering up to 340 HP and 420 NM. Power is then sent to its front wheel (FWD) via a manual six-speed sequential gearbox.
The first few units of the 2023 Lynk & CO 03 TCR will be delivered to its first customer team, Cyan Racing, who is poised to participate in the upcoming 2023 TCR World Tour program with four drivers, two of them being Swedish racer Thed Björk and Ma Qing Hua of China.
With its price capped at €148,000 (RM) as per TCR regulation, the new Lynk & Co 03 TCR is available for purchase by teams who are keen to participate in the TCR World Tour, kicking-off at Portimao in Portugal this coming April.
Apart from being the first Chinese marque to enter said FIA-sanctioned championship, the Lynk & Co CYAN Racing team driving the old-gen Lynk & Co 03 TCR also managed to clinch three WTCR world titles in three consecutive years, from 2019 to 2021. Meanwhile, its driver Yann Ehrlacher managed to win the drivers’ championship twice in the 2020 and 2021 editions – the first-ever driver to defend his WTCR title.
