The Malaysian government has announced its plans to develop an online system to cancel the registration of motor vehicles, according to Bernama

Deputy Transport Minister Hasbi Habibollah stated that the ministry is currently working on digital methods to resolve the issue of dumping defective and old vehicles without having to be present at the Road Transport Department (RTD) counter.

“Old vehicles are then disposed of by solid waste disposal companies or authorized automotive treatment facilities (AATF) recognized under the rules set by the relevant agency.

“Through this initiative, it is hoped that it will be able to solve the issue of dumping broken and old vehicles in the country, “he stated during a Q&A session at Dewan Rakyat today.

He then continued adding that the Ministry of Transport (MOT) through the Road Transport Department (RTD) is apparently all set to cooperate with relevant government agencies.

Through said collaboration, this approach deems to carry an initiative by the government to pursue further research and studies on the long-term direction to deal with environmental pollution due to abandoned vehicles.

Aside from that, the minister also remarked in his statement that the research should include examining the effective concept of disposal of old vehicles. Furthermore, the operation of said disposal system may contribute to increasing the level of road safety and reducing pollution from old vehicles in Malaysia.

“It will also boost demand for vehicles that will contribute to the sustainability of the country’s automotive sector,“ he concluded.
