- Rapper Wyclef Jean Unveils The Attucks Apex AP-0 EV Supercar
Haitian-born rapper-turn-entrepreneur Wyclef Jean has officially unveiled the all-new Attucks Apex AP-0 EV supercar. Dubbed as the “lightest-ever electric supercar”, the special model AP-0 is borne out of the collaboration between UK-based EV start-up Apex Motors and Attucks Futures and Technology – a business founded by Jean himself.
The Attucks Apex AP-0 is based on the standard Apex AP-0 super light EV supercar, boasting a rear-mounted electric motor that outputs up to 650 HP and 580 NM. Juiced by a 90-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the AP-0 is capable of despatching from 0 to 96 KM/H (60 MPH) in just 2.3 seconds, while enroute to its V-max of 305 KM/H.
What sets the AP-0 truly apart from a slew of other EV supercars is the lightweight package it harnesses. The manufacturer claims the AP-0 will only tip the scale by about 1,200 KG, which boosts their claim of the AP-0 being the lightest-ever electric supercar available out there. This feat is attainable thanks to the AP-0’s all-carbon monocoque chassis with a modular spaceframe and a central spine for maximum rigidity.
For comparison, the Rimac Nevera – currently the fastest EV on Earth – weighs in at 2,150 KG, which is almost double the weight of the AP-0.
What’s more shocking is the price of the Attucks Apex AP-0 supercar. In the world where supercars – both electric and gas-powered – can set one a couple of millions back, the AP-0, is only retailed at $350,000 (RM1.56 million approx.), possibly making it one of the most affordable performance-oriented EVs out there.
Beyond the supercar launch, this collaboration also will see Attucks utilising its platform to empower lower-income communities like the ones in Little Haiti, Miami.
Named after a Black man who was murdered by the British soldiers, which sparked the whole American Revolutionary War, Attucks was founded by Wyclef Jean, as an effort to provide an outlet for underdeveloped and often left out communities to grow and develop.
Apex Motors is a UK-based EV start-up that focuses on building lightweight, performance-oriented EV supercars that features cutting-edge designs. Hailing from Hambledon, England, the company was founded by Hong-Kong-Australian brothers Jason and Gary Leung. Aside from the UK, Apex Motors is also located in Hong Kong, as well as in Shenzhen, China.
